Infinite Reboot (Win2K)

My system is stuck in an infinite reboot with Win2K. After the F8 option progress bar, it reboots or even locks up at random moments. If I try booting to safe mode it does the same thing. Sometimes it gets as far as trying to load the login prompt and then reboots. It's not an HD issues because I just bought a new one and swapped out the old one. The system is a P3 733, 2x128mb PC133, A 8x CD burner, DVD rom, Geforce2, and SB Live. Does anyone have any ideas? Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try resetting the cmos and setting up the bios options again.
Oh and if you're overclocking, set it to default speeds for now.

What's the last thing you did to your os? Did you install any service pack recently?

Didn't the virus always reboot a minute after finishing booting? Not sure, but I don't think it caused the reboot right away...

I had a similar problem when a heatsink fan came loose. The system would sometimes die right before the login screen came up, or sometimes let me just barely start running the startup apps, but never further. As soon as I fixed the fan, everything worked rock solid. Make sure all your chipset and cpu fans are working and secured.

Well it's not a virus. Blaster doesn't operate in Safe Mode, and especially if the system hasn't finished booting. Anyway, try Memtest to see if your RAM is good, and monitor the +5v and +12v rails with Motherboard Monitor 5 to see if your PSU's on the way out.

You may also want to try an in-place XP repair; boot from the CD, press Enter as if to set up Windows again, and press R when it gives you the option of Repairing an existing installation.

You could try checking the new hard disk as well, there's a chance, albeit very slim, that you have a bad drive.

Let us know how it goes
