$300 for 1680x1050 IPS?

i got my MVA Viewsonic VX2025Wm 1680x1050 3 years ago for $340 shipped... whats the big deal???

pretty sure i'd rather take a nice 24in over this like the samsung t240...

corrected. but still. $300 for 1680x1050 today is no good. the res for this day and age is AT LEAST 1080p. although i'd prefer 1920x1200.

Dude, the T240 is a TN. It may be one of the best TNs, but it's still a TN, with all of the craptastic TN flaws. There's just no comparison. At all. I'd take a 22" IPS over a 24" TN any day.

Maybe, just maybe, the long dark TN days are over...

the article says "brightness is a tad lower". will have to wait and see how it compares to more expensive IPS's...

More expensive IPS units are way too bright. Even if the backlight spec is inflated, I don't see why >200cd/m^2 would be desirable. The question is if changing the brightness adversely affects other things, like color accuracy.

that one looks nice too. i wonder how much it'll cost though. probably at least $500 i'd guess, since its got a larger resolution as well

I'd have to sell my laptop and CRT to get the money, but I don't use my laptop and well, the CRT wouldn't be used either if I did.

Are you pressed for space? Want wide screen? Do you like over bright washed out inaccurate colors? LCD's aren't bad but unless you need one of the things I mentioned, there is zero reason to go from a beautiful CRT to an LCD. And even then I would chose IQ over space saved or any of the things LCD's do offer.

I'm not pressed for space, but I do want wide screen and go to LANs 2-4 times a month. I'm not going to run it at ridiculous brightness, and if it's a good IPS, the colors will be close enough to a CRT that I'd be willing to make the jump for.

Besides, my CRT is going bad and things are starting to look green

I'd be really interested in user reviews and opinions for the Dell 2209WA. I was going to buy an Acer 26" TN Panel for ~$290 but if the Dell is everything it's promising, I'd rather go for that. XTKnight, what are your thoughts on this monitor? And is eIPS just as high quality as an IPS?

According to a user on hardforums who calibrated the monitor, the colors still weren't that good. Apparently, the NEC 20WMGX2 has better colors out of the box than a calibrated Dell 2209WA. Black levels aren't very good at all, so overall it's still much better than a TN panel as response times are like a TN panel or better and low input lag.
