Has anyone figured out how what the Lineout vs Headphones does in the settings menu for "Output"?

way cool the lineout is for when you have a car adapter plugged into the unit.

the headphone is for when u have headphones plugged into the unit.

I've got a Stereo - Stereo cable that plugs into my CD-In jack on the back of my car stereo. Headphone Out has a lower volume out-put. Line-Out is slightly higher, so I don't have to pump the volume to max on the Nomad II.

Has anyone had problems play WMA files on the Nomad? The rip fine with Media Player 7, play fine on the computer, but when I put them on the Nomad, they play for about 2 minutes, then go to the next song.

I've been able to play WMAs just fine. These were not ripped with WMP7, tho. I did try with WMP7 and it couldnt copy the tracks digitally. The tracks came out with little to no volume (on Nomand and on PC). Could just be the machine, but I'll have to try it again to verify.

So I upgraded the Flashrom and my Nomad II Software, per the intructions on the site.

Now when I run Norton Utilities, I get a "Missing File: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\nmusb.sys: Cannot find required file hal.dll." Norton is unable to repair the problem. (It says it can, but then doesn't!).

The funny thing is, everything works fine! I am just a prick about everything working flawlessly on my computer. If Norton says there's something wrong, I tend to believe.

Suggestions?

I used Shuffler (http://www.illustrate.org/) to convert MP3s to WMA files and they work and sound great.

Atrac, why don't you just search for that file on your HD and put it wehre it belongs?

To make my WMAs, I ripped CDs to WAVs with AudioGrabber anf then converted the WAVs to WMA with WinAmp's WMA output plugin. I think WinAmp allowed for a higher bitrate (160k) over WMP7's 128k.

3 questions:::

1. Can one freely mix MP3s and WMAs on Nomad's memory and have them play "transparently" -- i.e., does the Nomad detect the difference and play 'em without intervention?

2. Is there any advantage of MP3 over WMA (or the reverse)? I read earlier in this thread that WMAs were much smaller than MP3s. Yet I just read on WinAmp's web site that this "advantage" was Microsoft-hype, and that WMA-formatted stuff may NOT be smaller than MP3-formatted stuff (other things equal; same quality, etc.).

3. Our son 1st said he wanted a Nomad (so we jumped on this deal). Now he says he wants a minidisk (MD) player (groan). He already has a portable CD player, and from what little we've read, MDs seem like just small CD players (right?). Can you give us some ammunition to convince him his new Nomad is better than a MD player (or is it?). Since he already has a portable CD player, what's the point of buying a $250 MD player? (He does have a CD-R/CD-RW burner.)

Help guys! Could really use your help, especially with question #3.

Does anyone have the Diamond Rio and the Nomad? My Nomad supposed to show up on the second and I'm thinking about auctioning it, because I already have the Rio. I pretty satisfied with the Rio for what it does, and I could use the $200. But I have a feeling I'll be cracking open the Nomad box as soon as I get it.

You know what? I'm going to use my Nomad 2 for about a month, then get rid of it on auctions. I had to open a sealed bag to get the install cd out, but that's it...I even left the protective plastic on the lcd. The A-B usb cable included I left in its own bag cause I have an extra of my own.

The Nomad 2 is cool, but to make a 3x profit on it is too good to pass up unless flash memory drops in price...
