FYI:
Though I have no idea as to the quality or desireability of a B stock model, this particular projector is very highly regarded by those in the know. Specifically the under $5000 board over at AVS Forum has a TON of conversation about this unit. Almost all of it is very high praise.
I do not own one of these but avidly read that forum and thought anyone looking at this deal might benefit from the information offered there.

Guys. What am I missing? How and why does someone use a projector for Home Theater use?

#1 a projector like this doesn't take up any space like a rear projection tv,
#2 Its portable, so you can use it in your living room and then take it up to your bedroom if you like.
#3 if you make your own screen, which is very easy to do, then you can have any size screen you want. Mine is 106" screen and looks better then any rear projection tv on the market.
#4 It costs less then a rear projection tv with better PQ.
Click on Pics in my sig and you can see my screen

$700 for a refurbished X1 when new ones are under $1000? I'm not sure that's a good deal. I am buying an X1, but I haven't decided to get new or refurbed. What happens if the bulb dies in a couple of months? Well a new bulb runs about $300 which means you are OVER the cost of a new one now. Then throw in the reduced warranty you get with the refurb and all its benefits seem to dissolve away. I'm generally the type of guy that prefers to buy things used, rather than pay the big first adopter price ( I would NEVER buy a new car) but I'm not sure that these are a good deal. Also, I read somewhere that if you buy a projector used, a good rule of thumb is to pay 2/3 of new, and deduct the cost of a replacement bulb, as you have no guarantee you won't need one next week. Well that would mean this is way overpriced. I'm undecided, but leaning towards a new one... I would consider if they honored the $650 price but $700?
While I think you are correct that these bulbs probably have very few hours, just checking the bulb hours in the menu system is no good as this can easily be reset to zero. If they upgraded the firmware during the refurb, chances are the lamp was zeroed again. So once you get yours, check the blub hours on the unit. If for some reason way out of wack, return it. Simple as that.
