Does this come with a new bulb? If not, you might as well get a new one.

B Stockefinition: Factory refurbished demos and returns
Warranty: Minimum 1 year parts and labor, but varies according to product and manufacturer
Lamp Life: Full manufacturers' specs (about 2,000 hours)
That 2000 hrs is a general estimate of all b stock

Normally bulbs have only a 90 day warranty. Don't know why that is. Maybe because after 100-300 hours the bulb starts losing it's POP. As it gets dimmer with age and maybe they don't want to have cry babies sob about it just doesn't look as bright or the colors arn't as crisp as they use to be 11 months down the road.

Usually B - stock means that the person took it home for less then 30 days and brought it back because he/she didn't like it for some reason. In that case how many hours could they have possibly put on the bulb? More then likely someone found a better deal else where or they thought it was too heavy or it just didn't turn on DOA. Worst case Infocus gave the unit to a store for 6 months to demo in that case your more then likely the unit would have been turned on and left on for long periods of time... ROLL YOUR DICE!!! I guess if there is lots of dust on the exhaust fan blades then I'd return it and get a refund.

Altho, I'm not a big fan of infocus. I'd do some research before buying this unit as to what other think of it. I'd check out Sharp first. I heard they just came out with a budget unit.

My $.02 on this.....

800x600 does NOT cut it for computer use..... get at least 1024x768.

The projector's themselves last for years, but the bulb prices kill ya. Make sure the replacement bulbs are "cheap" (less than $300) and the unit has bulb saving features like 1/2 power if idle for xx-min, or auto-off, auto-cool down, etc.

FYI:

Though I have no idea as to the quality or desireability of a B stock model, this particular projector is very highly regarded by those in the know. Specifically the under $5000 board over at AVS Forum has a TON of conversation about this unit. Almost all of it is very high praise.

I do not own one of these but avidly read that forum and thought anyone looking at this deal might benefit from the information offered there.

I own one of these, just bought it a couple of weeks ago. I used to sell very high end gear at a professional home theater shop and I can say this thing is unbelievable. IT rivals some of the better projectors out there. You would think an 800x600 resolution wouldn't be great but the thing looks awesome for DVD's and HD. I'll agree for computer use it may not be the best, but if I knew this deal was coming around I would have jumped all over it. I bought mine from Best Buy for $999. B Stock items are usually top quality and if anything goes wrong its usually in the first 30 days.

#1 a projector like this doesn't take up any space like a rear projection tv,
#2 Its portable, so you can use it in your living room and then take it up to your bedroom if you like.
#3 if you make your own screen, which is very easy to do, then you can have any size screen you want. Mine is 106" screen and looks better then any rear projection tv on the market.
#4 It costs less then a rear projection tv with better PQ.

Okay. That helps a lot, but it leaves one big question unanswered. How do you do 5.1 sound?

yeah, LCD, DLP, and LCOS projectors are great for home theater. There's some really nice ones out there right now that look great on a 100 inch screen and cost about the same as an RPTV. The Panasonic L300U and the Sony HS10 are both very popular right now, along with the X1.

We used to watch movies at my old job using their InFocus projector (different model, but still 800x600) and it was SWEET!

Definitely not good for computer use, but for home theatre use, these kind of projectors rock.

Only issues, 1000 lumens means you'd better have a pretty dark room to watch your movies, and bulbs for these things tend to be VERY expensive (compare here) and don't last too long so do some research and budget calculations before you jump into it.

It is rare to find these projectors, even used, for less than $1000. Hot deal.

Out of stock. The salesman I spoke to advised me that these went "faster than anything he's ever seen"... They're an authorized InFocus repair place, and expect to be getting more from the factory "sometime soon".

Another nice thing about projectors- no burn in like you get with tv's.

$700 for a refurbished X1 when new ones are under $1000? I'm not sure that's a good deal. I am buying an X1, but I haven't decided to get new or refurbed. What happens if the bulb dies in a couple of months? Well a new bulb runs about $300 which means you are OVER the cost of a new one now. Then throw in the reduced warranty you get with the refurb and all its benefits seem to dissolve away. I'm generally the type of guy that prefers to buy things used, rather than pay the big first adopter price ( I would NEVER buy a new car) but I'm not sure that these are a good deal. Also, I read somewhere that if you buy a projector used, a good rule of thumb is to pay 2/3 of new, and deduct the cost of a replacement bulb, as you have no guarantee you won't need one next week. Well that would mean this is way overpriced. I'm undecided, but leaning towards a new one... I would consider if they honored the $650 price but $700?

I'd buy refurbished without even thinking twice, this is a hot deal! Dude most PJ's come with 1 year warranty to begin with (well the Dell's do anyways) and they go for a lot more than this unit and are inferior. Like said before, B units mean they've been returned by customers. So once you get yours, check the blub hours on the unit. If for some reason way out of wack, return it. Simple as that.

While I think you are correct that these bulbs probably have very few hours, just checking the bulb hours in the menu system is no good as this can easily be reset to zero. If they upgraded the firmware during the refurb, chances are the lamp was zeroed again.

For your information, retail X1 bulbs are rated at 3,000 hours -- better than the usual 2,000 hour that come with most projectors.

I've used this projector with a VGA connection running at 1024x768 and it looks amazing. I wouldn't let the 800x600 resolution limit be too much of a concern. The scaling looks great.

I went to Apple's website and put in my info as a student. I could find no products searching for "x1" or "infocus". Can you provide a link?

As a poor college student that spent nearly ALL his spare change on this bad boy back when it was $1600....

this is a STEAL. this projector has been worth every penny... and new bulbs are only $300ish.

brand new is 999, so you could buy this and a new bulb, and be taken care of for a long time.
