InFocus X1 - Got one?

I was wondering if anyone here has one. If so, how's the picture quality like when viewing TV/DVD/Cable? I only managed to see the startup screen in my local electronics store (wasn't hooked up to any video equipment) so it's hard to tell.

If anyone has one and is kind enough to take a photo of the thing in action, thank you in advance

I'm not a videophile, but know how to appreciate good video when i see it. Right now it's a toss-up between an InFocus X1 or saving up for a Plasma in another year. If anything, whatever i end up with is going to be used for DVD's and will probably not see much action as our regular 19" TV for regular tv programming (e.g. news, tv series, simpsons )

I really wanted an X1 for a while, then I realized I need a car :-x My friend's wife is actually doing research on Plasma TV's I believe it was and from what she says they definetly aren't as great as they are made out to to be. The colors typically die after about 4 years. And one of the colors and can randomally die even when it's first turned on :-x I believe it was red.

Which one has colors that die out after 4 years, plasma?

If so, i was thinking about the same issue... from what i understand, Plasma TV's have a shorter lifespan than regular TV's and cannot be recharged. So a $4k "investment" is going to go down the drain eventually. The DLP OTOH will only need a new bulb after 4k hours of use (e.g. InFocus X1's newest firmware).

Yeah, I'm talking about the plasma. Personally I'd go with a X1 or a nice big HDTV If you watch a lot of TV HDTV would probably be better for your needs. If not the X1 could be good. You could watch a 2 hour movie every day for 4 years approximately until the bulb ran out.

Since the X1 is cheaper for us right now, might end up with that rather than an HDTV. We can deal with watching regular broadcasts on our old 19" TV

For video's and non-hdtv viewing, sure!

In fact, even for high def the reviews come out saying it's not as bad as one thinks inspite of the lack of resolution. Considering i watch movies in the theatre, the X1 still has gotta be a lot better.

Bang for the buck is impossible to beat.

You wouldn't happen to have a photo of it in action would you?

Btw, how's the image quality like in a lit-up room?

No digicam, or I'd post a pic.

As with all digital projectors (below 2000-3000 lumens anyway), it looks washed out with the lights on, but with a small amount of light, it's OK). For movies, though, you want to have the lights off.

Still, can't beat a 96" picture for $999.

Figures, i was just a bit concerned since the room this might go into has a window, even with the blinds closed there's a bit of light coming from the lamppost on the street.

Wish i could go 96" on this baby, i can't place the X1 far enough to achieve that size - but i can definitely get something close to it

I have one too. I've used mine with HDTV, StandardTV, DVD, 800x600 computer, and an xbox. Everything looked great on it. Standard TV might be a problem just because the signal is such a low resolution.

Picture quality with the lights on depends mainly on the screen, but event the best screens will not perform well with a lot of light in the room. My standard blackout cloth screen will work ok in dim light. By dim, I mean something like a single lamp with a 40 watt bulb in it. If you really must have the lights on, then look into getting the DaLite high power screen. The projector needs to be table mounted in order to use high power material.

I'll be projecting it into the white wall for now (matte-finish) until i can get my hands on a good screen. If anything, this won't be used during the day - but at night there is that lightpost on the street that can shine through just a little bit. Much dimmer than a 40w bulb though, so i guess it shouldn't be aproblem

How bad of an image do you get with regular TV (was it through a cable box)?

I'm using a cable box, but it isn't the X1's fault that standard cable doesn't look good. Standard cable probably isn't that bad, but when I go from the HDTV channels to the standard cable channels it just looks bad in comparison. You will get this with any large screen TV, but the larger the screen, the more you will notice it.

Fair enough. I'll probably notice that difference, but as long as it doesn't look as bad a rear-projection tv i'll be happy.
