Information Systems degree

What would you do with a Business degree with the emphasis being Information Systems? It seems like this is a CS for dummies degree. Any thoughts?

You'd make a lot more than the "engineers" because you'd be telling them what to do.

What would I do? probably become a director level position for a few years and then move to CIO/officer position by age 38.

Business Analyst and the likes...

Technical people with a solid business background is valuable.

yes, MIS is a legit major. i was a mechanical engineer who went into IS consulting at accenture.

One of my friends in IS was describing one of the intro level classes in IS. He was telling me it essentially consisted of going over what each part in a computer does and then they got to put one together. The standards for IS must be pretty low because he got in with a 2.9 GPA when the average to get into the rest of the Business School is a 3.6.

This degree doesn't properly prepare you to do anything technical (programming, admin related tasks, etc.) It's more of a business degree.

regular auditors audit financial statements. however, FS nowadays are outputs of systems, whether it be oracle or great plains, etc. so you MUST get IS assurance in order to get financial statement assurance because the data. IS auditors audit the systems in which the financials are generated/stored.

True, you will be the boss (after some experience in the field) over the code monkeys and the like. Play your cards right and you can even open the door to executive management.

1st rule of dealing with an auditor and I cannot stress this enough......do NOT divulge information without being specifically asked for it. They are trained in "getting you to sing".

Don't sing, don't be the canary, hold your ground and stick to procedure. Site procedure when pressured.
