Depends how liquid you want it, and what risk you are willing to take. There are all sorts of Exchange Traded Funds (PPR, PTY, etc) that are relatively safe, yield 6-8%, but you do risk losing principal if you need to withdraw it at inopportune times. CD's return a little more than these ING or Presidential savings accounts, but liquidity can be a problem --- though your principal is safe.

For short term super liquid savings Presidential at 3.87% is pretty good. For checking (up to $25K) Presidential at 3.75% is unbeatable .

Thanks.

Personally, I don't like clearing my cookies. If you just do a blanket dump of all your cookies, auto logon information for stuff like this Anandtech forum will also be dumped. This is very frustrating, especially if you can't remember your password. Also recommending someone to clear their cookies just to see an updated website that doesn't really have any intrinsic value is even worse.

Even if you are having trouble with certain cookies, you can sometimes locate and selectively remove the troublesome ones by sorting the cookies by date or name. In this case, you would look for ING related stuff.

even if these are small increases, ing's interface is much easier to use and understand. all my friends and relatives have ing where as emigrant is an alien to them. i guess it all depends on what you like and dont like. i just dont like emigrant.

Your right about that. Ing has a much better interface but then again having a better interface isn't bringing more money to me. In fact since ing has a lower rate, i'm actually paying them to use the nice interface. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying ing is bad nor am I trying to flame.

yup... ING does rule. I was doing some research the other day and back in the 90's they used to have interest rates of 6% on their savings account... that is crazy!

Can someone fill me in on the benefit of a referral? Is it like Tracfone where you both benefit (ie: get 100 minutes free?)

you get $25 free and the person sending you a link gets $10. so if you need one let me know.

Ing is great but they really need to raise their intrest rate to be more competitive. Emigrant beets them at 2.5% and HSBC now has 3.7? savings accounts.

why do i not see what emigrant bank's rate is currently?

i'm happy with my ING 3.3% but if i can squeeze an extra .5% out of my money i'd be glad to switch! Presidential online is nice, but as a college student, I can deal with the $5000 minimum now, but i dont want to have to worry about it later. time value of money....hrm
