I think the direct link between ED and ING worked only if, upon your initial online signup with ING, you put in the ED routing and information for the initial transfer. For those of us who had ING long before ED offered this online savings account, there is no way I know of to link them. ING's routing number does not allow incoming banks to take money out....in other words the only way to get money out of ING is to use ING's interface to send it. You can't set up ED or HSBC or any other service to do a ACH transfer out of ING initiated at ED or HSBC. So I was told by the ING rep and when I tried to use ING's routing information it was not accepted by my other online banks.
To go the other way, from ING to other bank, you can set up the routing info upon iniitial setup with ING to nearly any other account -- savings or checking. But once you have ING set up the only way to add another bank is by submitting a check (with the routing info of the other account) to ING. Since HSBC and ED are not checking accounts, you don't have checks and you can't submit one. When I asked the ING rep if I could establish a link by simply sending a letter to ING with the routing information to my ED account, she said no -- the ONLY way to add another account is by submitting a check.
So I gave up on trying to link ED or HSBC to ING. I did link my Presidential account to ING but it is a checking account (that pays 4% right now).

I am also with all three (ING, HSBC and ED) with all of the money at ED at the moment.
Should put them into ING for the next three months though . Out of three, ING's site
is the most pleasing, but I could not establish a direct link between ED and ING
(some say they've succeeded). Also, ED promised to come up with a super-duper
"get the most rewards" credit card before the end of 2005, but they never did. I don't
take that as a good sign.
If anyone needs an ING referral please PM me.

I am not sure if that's true. I link ING directly to my credit cards and have no problems with my credit cards initiating transfers out of ING.

Hey that would be cool if I could do that. What Routing number did you use for ING ? When I put ING's Routing number into the HSBC form to link my HSBC account to ING, HSBC's side came back and said the number wasn't valid for transfers out of ING. When I called ING to ask for a routing number to transfer money out the representative told me that they didn't allow other accounts to link into the ING Orange accounts and that the routing number provided by ING would not work for that purpose. Since it seemed to confirm what the HSBC lady told me I gave up trying.
Being able to do this would be great cause it would allow me to link other hi-rate savings accounts to my ING and I could transer between them, as anticipated in this thread, without having to go through my intermediary checking account.
Can you share the routing number that works ? (and your account number if ya want? )

This Ing Rate is totally laughable given the good deals offered by a number of other institutions including emigrantDirect's 4.75% deal

obligatory referrals are a no no and you're going to get this thread locked post. Besides, the person has to deposit $250 to get the $25.

If anyone else verifies that this works, I am very interested. I want to use my ING account to fund my Roth IRA.

I have a question about how interest is added... (sorry i'm new to this)
Lets say, for example, I deposit $1000 on March 1st. ING pays interest monthly, at lets say... March 30th.
If I withdraw all my money, for some reason at March 29th, will I still gain the monthly interest for 29 days? Or will I get no interest back at all?
