what could really cause this? Ive never seen this happen before but then again i haven't done too many axles.

Normal outer axles break due to pot holes mainly least around here. The accord doesn't have enough power to remote break an axle.

I've seen a good amount of cars with torn outer boots, clicking axles, and axles that split while driving. I've R/I about 15 axles myslef. But all were internally broken with boots intact or outer boots broken.

I just saw a 92 accord with good outer boots but freshly torn inner boot. It was the driver side which on hondas are the longer ones.

Looks like a easy job, i never done a honda. Simple axle bolt, undo a tierod, balljoint and/or strut and pop out the axle. Thats what it looks like, nothing crazy maybe/hopefully 1 quick hour. Anyone done it before on a accord? I fear age/rust mainly

what could really cause this?

To rectal-pluck a possible cause: maybe a coolant or oil (or another fluid) leaked and started to degrade the boot? Is it anywhere near the exhaust? Maybe heat had something to do with it.

have either a big impact gun(like 3/4" or bigger drive) or a really long cheater bar for the axle nut. Other than that its really not bad at all.

not an issue. I have a IR 2135Ti, its a 1/2" but will spank most 3/4"

I have nothing to contribute other than "rectal-pluck" made me LOL

it was either near the radaitor core support or exhaust manifold/header. Very WARM area, the oil filter happens to be right above it so people could accidently damage it.

Pretty simple on an Accord if this video is any indicator:

pretty simple but then again he doesn't look like he lives in a rust belt area. That accord is one generation newer but hopefully nothing is different. Looks the same, i didn't look at for a wishbone.

Everyone tells me FWD honda axles are cake and take 20 minutes. i hope its the same.

did it, about hour and 1/2. Fighting that balljoint to come out of the spindle took most of my time. I never used a pickle fork, i normally just bang and pry them loose.

Everything else went out. Friend told me something is making a vibration/noise. I got my axle from advanceauto, GSP brand new axle. You think the axle is bad? There was only 3 bolts taken off. I know all 3 are tighten, the axle i confirmed was in and seated into the trans. We drove around at a lower speed and didn't notice too much. He took it home on the highway and told me, he feels something is off. He is coming back tomorrow so i can take a look. I'm about 95% sure everything is in, but i tighten everything via impact and not by hand. Maybe i missed something. Or maybe that axle is junk...

FWIW I hand-check everything that goes back on a car. I don't trust impacts for that, but I do love torque wrenches

Any chance a wheel weight got dislodged in the process? That'd be an easy way out.

yea i normally hand check things. I dont know why i didn't think to double check them by hand. I'm with you i dont really trust impacts.

Wheel weight could be but my garage floor looked clean. It doesn't help that there were other prior noises and etc with the car since the bumpers aren't fully mounted on the car because of accidents. But he told me noises aside, there is a weird vibration that wasn't there. Really i only removed 4 lug nuts, 1 36mm axle nut, 1 17mm ball joint nut, and one 17mm dogbone bolt and nut. Maybe the ball joint didn't seat 100% or i dinged it up.
