Sue for what? Yes, an innocent girl was taken in based upon an identification. She spent a week in jail. Don't get me wrong, that really sucks and I would hate to be her in that situation.

But sue? Based on what? The cops were doing their jobs. They arrested and arraigned her based upon mistaken identity. She wasn't beaten or raped or starved in their custody.

Her parents will get their money back. True, the girl won't get that time back that she spent in jail but it's not like her reputation has been damaged in the end. Everybody knows she wasn't involved and didn't do it.

You can't tell me you would be able to positively differentiate her from the one who DID do the crime based on those pics in the story. Remember, robbers don't usually stand around and let you inspect their faces.

She'll get over it. Traumatizing - yes? Worth a lawsuit - hell no.

?Amanda Sylvester was not involved in the robbery,? Ryan said. ?We have no information or any reason to believe that Amanda is involved in drugs or any illegal activity. We are horribly sorry about what happened.?

"There have been some really nasty, ugly, things said about Amanda that never should have been allowed," Ryan said.

Police Chief Martin Sutschenritter apologized for the error, adding ?There is a lesson to be learned here, that everything isn?t always what it appears.?

You don't think she should be compensated for a week of lost work/lost job, etc?

She doesn't deserve to strike it rich, but she does deserve some compensation for her real losses.

and where did i say they refused to say sorry? many (including some cops on this board) refuse to when they make a mistake.

She was 17. Yeah, I guess give her min wage for a week if she actually had a part-time job. When I was 17 and it was November, I was a high school senior with too many extracurricular activities to have a job.

So let's see 20 hours (OK we'll be nice, 30 hours) at what is it, $5.35 per hour? And then there's taxes....

Gahhhh. I'm so sick of people filing lawsuits.

While I agree that there are many frivolous lawsuits, FALSE IMPRISONMENT is a valid cause for one.

I dont like it when people bash cops...even if they do give you a pointless ticket. Its ok to be mad at an individual cop, but that should be it.

remember if you are ever in danger , ex: your house is being robbed, they will be the ones who will come rescue you.

I don't think anyone is really bashing the cops here. It seems like a fairly honest mistake.

no kidding, if these pics were apart or you saw each of these girls at different times, it'd be pretty hard to tell them apart.

It's not like the cops had a vendetta against her and threw her in jail because they thought she was a loser. She was identified by a witness as part of a robbery. It wasn't a conspiracy.

The cops had cause. The cops did what they were supposed to do. And things wound up working the way they were supposed to. It's all part of this thing called life.

I certainly hope you don't think we should pay her for her time away from Myspace or text messaging if she wasn't employed right?

Yes, the cops had cause, but she was the wrong girl. She deserves something for FALSE IMPRISONMENT. Not to get rich or anything, but a little something.

Trust me, if you spent a week in jail for something you didn't do you'd be out for blood.

No. I've never been in jail (have been a visitor though) and I've never been arrested for anything.

Her 17-year-old self will be just fine. She'll bounce back quicker than you can say 'Prom Queen' and will have a story to tell for the rest of her life. She's coming out smelling like a rose and she's probably being pitied enough. She doesn't deserve $10,000 (as Waggy suggested) for this.

Again, it was an honest mistake made by a witness and the cops and prosecutors were doing their job. She'll get over it.

scarry that they can just throw you in jail with NO proof

Well, they did have a witness ID.

So looking like someone is a crime now?

Didn't put much thought into that one, did you?

This wasn't Los Angeles, Cook, Harris (TX), or Fulton counties, any borough of NY, and it sure as hell wasn't Maricopa county. This was Nebraska. She's a 17-yr-old female.

Trust me. She'll be just fine.

But more than likely she'll wind up with a half million dollar settlement and the sense of entitlement contributing to the wussification of America will continue.

Uh huh. And I'd bet money if it was you instead of her, you'd be screaming for people's heads to roll.

But you'll never admit to that... and you've never been to jail.
