I have a Dell e1505 that is in medicore shape; the hinges are worn, the battery is dead, the ac adapter is hanging on by a thread of wire, and I've been having thermal issues despite undervolting the cpu.
I came across an ASUS Z96JP barebones online comparable in price to the cost of a replacement battery and ac adapter for my dell. I could gut the components from my e1505 and end up with a usable laptop with upgraded graphics and screen quality. Hopefully the motherboard would not be locked, so I would have better control in tweaking performance and power draw of the components.
I would like to know if anyone is familiar with the ASUS model, or that line of barebones- mainly what type of quality construction. I'd rather not trade one dell for another with a differing name.
