I was looking at various configurations for laptops recently and found this Thinkpad T61P 14.1" to be a pretty nice deal.
Processor[1] Intel? Core? 2 Duo processor T8300 (2.4GHz 800MHz 3MBL2)
Operating System[12] Genuine Windows Vista Business
Operating System Language Genuine Windows Vista Business - US English
Display type 14.1 SXGA+ (1400x1050) TFT
System graphics NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M (128MB Open GL)
Total memory[8] 1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)
*I plan to buy a single 2GB stick or a 2x2GB kit of DDR2 from Newegg for $40-80.*
Keyboard Keyboard US English
Pointing Device UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad) with Fingerprint Reader
Hard Drive[4] 160GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
Optical device[5] DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer, Ultrabay Slim
System expansion slots PC Card Slot & Express Card Slot
Wireless Card[10] Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN (supporting Centrino Pro)
Battery[60] 9 cell Li-Ion Battery
The configured weight is about 5.6 lbs with the 9 cell battery, which gives an estimated 5-6 hours of battery life. The price as configured is $1057, which I think is pretty good considering the fast CPU, FX570M (8600GT) GPU, and large battery. I looked at Johns Hopkins' IT services to see if they offered better deals, but they stopped carrying laptops from Lenovo and only carry Dell and Apple now. So my question is, should I go for the above deal or wait until May/June to buy the next Centrino revision that may cost more? Will there be any huge upgrades to the Thinkpad line in the next few months, such as LED lit screens, quad core, etc?
Edited: Found better price-originally posted $1160, now 1057 with same specs
