Input on some CPUs

Right now I'm running a Sempron 3300+ on my system, and needless to say, has been a great CPU for the price, and OCed from 1.8 to 2.5GHz easy w/o a stability loss at all. Now, I want to upgrade to something a bit better, but all these A64 revisions have snuck up on me and completely blown my mind. At first I was looking at a A64 3400+ 2.4GHz 754pin 800FSB. That way I could get the extra L2 cache, and most likely be able to get 3.0GHz (or more?) after the OC. Then I ran across the A64 3000+ with 1.6GHz FSB, @2.0GHz. I can definatly see the benefit from the 1600FSB, but would it really be beneficial compared to the 3400+ with 800FSB? Anyone have any input on this? I know I should just upgrade to a 939, but I really don't want to spend that kind of money right now (new CPU, new board, new vid card since I would go to PCI-E).

Ok ALL socket 754 cpus have a HTT speed of 800 mhz or sometimes they call it as 1600 (full duplex bus)

now u wont be able to reach 3ghz on a A64 3400+, u will prolly be lucky to reach 2.6ghz, the 3400+ is based on the old core, Newcastle 130nm process, they run hotter and dont overclock well. Also overclocking does not scale linearly and most cpus will max out at the same speed as the more expencive and faster at stock cpus.

There is a venice 3000+ avalable and that should overclock well, but as far as i see it there is not much point of going for it.
Sure a 3000+ at 2.3ghz will be as fast as that sempron at 2.5ghz in general, but it not worth the money to get such a small upgrade.

Only upgrade which would justify itself would be to go dual core on socket 939 otherwise there is no point.
