Some of this stuff is so damned cool.

“Braking is very difficult,” admits Elvin. The vehicle has been designed to slow from 1,000mph to standstill in 65 second, a process which creates forces of 3G in the cockpit. “If you drive a family car into a wall at 30mph, that’s what 3G feels like,” he explains. “It’s what most people call a crash.”

Green will experience that force for the duration of the deceleration, meaning that he endures a typical car crash for over a minute. Green’s an experienced acrobatic pilot, though, so he won’t be using a G-suit during the runs.

It has a v8 sports car engine... for one of its fuel pumps. A major technical challenge will be how they handle the vacuum that forms behind it, since it will be moving faster than air can move around the car. It's like I'm reading about a thing someone made in Kerbal Space Program, not real life.

From the HORRIFIC Gizmodo link:

The engines — particularly the jet engine — don’t like breathing the supersonic air that will be passing by the car when it breaks the speed of sound, so the team has designed the leading edge of cockpit to generate a huge shockwave, which will slow the air down to sub-sonic speeds. That helps the engine to work, but all the energy has to go somewhere and, sadly for Green, it turns up as noise. “There will be sound deadening around the cockpit, and he’ll be wearing noise-canceling headphones,”

Nice
The most recognizable thing, apart from the seven fire extinguishers, is the Jaguar AJ133 5.0-liter V8, lifted from an F-Type, which will run the fuel pumps that deliver over 211 gallons of high-test peroxide over the rocket motor's 20-second burn time.

A V8 is needed to deliver fuel to a rocket engine
In addition to the main Typhoon jet engine

It seems like they could just cut the wings off an old F16 and have the same thing.

I did not even know you could compress aluminum like that for the wheels.

Interesting.

Yup, sometimes people miss the forest for the tree.

It's no different than a jet taxiing on the ground. Albeit at a MUCH higher speed than any jets have ever taxied on the ground.

So, essentially, it's nothing like a jet taxiing on the ground.

Very cool and will be interesting to see how it goes for them.

It originally was to have an F1 engine in that role but it fell through (can't recall why off the top of my head, there's been a ton of articles about this thing over the past few years so it should be easy to find if you're interested).

No, it's substantially different and talk about missing the forest for the tree. You missed the forest, ran right into the tree, and then somehow missed the bear taking a shit on your statement because that's about what it is worth.

That speed difference is kinda exactly the reason why this vehicle is different from a jet while on the ground.

You don't know.

It's a lot more like a jet flying on the ground than it is a car driving in the sky.

Can you people just stop with the stupid shitass analogies? It's literally a purpose built vehicle for trying to go 1000mph on a salt flat. A jet "flying" on the ground |) and a car "driving" in the sky |) both have to deal with aerodynamics, gravity, friction, and more or less the same things, just at varying levels.

I actually have a pretty good idea. I'll have you know that I read Wikipedia.

But yes it is more like a plane on the ground than a car in the sky, since it will be moving quite a bit faster than sound at their goal of 1000mph. But that doesn't mean they could take the wings off an F16, redo its suspension, and call it a day. That's just retarded.

With my creativity and your knowledge of sciencey stuff we could team up and make an awesome jet powered plane/car hybrid.

Sounds like we're in agreement.
