Is there a separate category for top speed where the power is delivered through the wheels? This seems like cheating since the thrust is applied directly from the jet/rocket.

One of the rules requires the vehicle to be operable on a giant treadmill without taking off.

I'm pretty sure I found that crap jet car:

They keep claiming they'll break the record at 1,000 MPH but as far as I can find aint beat 400MPH yet.

Yeah, I find the Veyron much more impressive. Almost 300 MPH (480 KM/H) in a comfy lounge that you can use on any road. As far as I know there is no other car even close. Sure there are some stripped out tube steel trash cans that will rattle and bang their way close to the same speed...but that's not the same thing, and they aint beat it yet either.
