Well I'm going to be 16 on March 11th, and I have no idea what to ask my parents for. I'm into computer stuff mostly, somewhat into video games, music, movies. What do you think I should get? They probably won't buy me anything too much over $200, but I have some money that I could contribute to it also, so maybe up to $350.

Ok, I've decided to get the Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500s, but I can't find anyone who sells them. I need some help. Thanks!

edit: I found them here for $246 plus $15 shipping and then tax, so the total would be about $275. If anyone can find a better price, let me know. Shipping would be to the 94904 or 94608 zip code, both in California.

edit2: Now I don't know whether to get the Creative Labs Inspire 5700 or the Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500. They are very similar in price, so that is not an issue. Please give me some advice here.

<< BTW... how did u get an AMD P4 from Dell? >>

hahahaha....oops...thanks for pointing that out. I changed it. Btw, I didn't get it from Dell.

Also, DVDR is too expensive, and I wouldn't use it...

That might work. That's what I did last year, and I saved up and bought a PDA with it.

What speakers would you reccommend? Which ones are good? I heard that the Klipsch ones are good or maybe the Logitech ones, I really have no idea.

Mebbe get something not directly computer related... like a CD/MP3 deck for your car or a portable MP3 unit with a tape adapter?
DVD fer the car is a bit too pricey... do you have a PDA yet? Mobile stuff is usually a good bet...

I have a PDA, it's sorta old, but I don't want to spend a lot of money on a new one. Maybe a CD/MP3 player, but I don't know if I'd actually use it.

I'm thinking about getting some nice speakers, like LongCoolMother suggested, but I don't know which ones to get. Someone please tell me which ones are good.

If your looking for speakers I would say the Klipsch promedia 4.1s, but if you want to save some cash, get the Logitech z560s, they are almost as nice.

I'd still like some more opinions. What do I need to look for to figure out which speakers to get?

Well, if you wanna use your system as a stereo or even a home theater type thing... mebbe a 5.1 setup would be good since you definitely have the card for it!

Pretty much everyone likes the Klipsch or Logitechs since they are great for the $$. Frequency response & range are important... power... signal to noise... and of course, go to a store and listen to them for yourself. Mebbe bring one of your fav CDs and ask the salesperson to play it through the speakers of choice.

the promedia 4.1s are $299, if you're going to spend $350 see if you find an extra $50 and try to get the promedia 5.1s. they're awesome.

i have cambridge soundworks FPS 2000 digital. they're great. id definately recomend for high end (you) the logitech z560s. Remember, they were called "klipsch killers" in IGN.com's review of them. I wouldnt be too sure to say they are better than the klipsch, but i can bet you they are just as good for much less the price. if you're willing, by all means go for the promedias, they're awesome. but if i were you, id save the cash a bit n get the z560s . If you can get them for $150 or less, you should be the happiest guy in the neighborhood, these babies are awesome!

I found the Z560s here at mwave for $140 plus $30 for 3 day shipping. I think I'm going to get those, unless there are any better speakers that aren't much more expensive. I'll probably order them on Monday, so please let me know ASAP.

What's the reason for using computer intended speakers such as Logitech instead of just hooking up to a stereo system through it's auxilary port?

I looked at Logitech 560 here and it looks like a set consisting of four wussy speakers and a subwoofer.

Here's some of the speakers that they sell at newegg. I'd like to get 5.1 channel speakers, so I don't especially want the Z560s, unless the one extra channel won't matter. I don't know.

Yeah that's true...I don't think I want the Z560s. Which ones should I get then? I really need some help deciding.

Can someone tell me what to look for so I can look around to see which ones to get? Thanks.

I would definitely get the Z-560 speakers. I got my own set for Christmas and these things rock. If you don't get these then I'd try the Promedia 4.1 or 5.1's.

Also I have no idea wtf kind of picture that is Jerboy. Those are NOT the Z-560's. I wouldn't have gotten my set if thats what they actually looked like. Click here for pics of the actual speakers (page 3 has a good one of a satellite with and without the cover). Just for reference they are 7" tall with the stand.. not some wussy midget ones.

The only thing is that I want 5.1 channel speakers, not 4.1. I don't know how much of a difference it makes, so maybe 4.1 channel speakers are okay. See my post above to see the 5.1 chanel speakers I was looking at.

edit: The speakers that Jerboy linked to were Z540s, not Z560s. That one number makes a BIG difference.

jerboy those spearkers you are reffering to are the logitech Z-540 which retail at about 80.
the z-560 are suppose to be much better than that

Personally i have the cambridge FPS 2500, which are pretty nice, athough the control box doesnt have a headphone jack and the satellite speakers aren't as powerful as the kipslitch ones.

I also have the ADA 885s, which are also prety nice too.

Personally i really cant tell a huge difference between high end speakers. Id say just go with the cheapest high end speaker system out, which would probably be the z-560s,

edit: if you want 5.1 setup thats a high end setup and relatively inexpensive go for the Creative Labs Cambridge DeskTop Theater 5.1 DTT2500 Digital (again the only complaint i have is that there is no headphone jack, and the sattelite speakers aren't as powerful as the kipslitch ones) , they retail for about 130 + shipping on price watch

ZDNET really liked these; they got the highest rating of all of their speaker reviews, an 8.5, and it has all of the features that I want. They're ~$250 plus shipping, so they're within my price range. And I haven't checked pricewatch yet, so I'm sure I can find them cheaper. What do you think? Btw the speakers are Cambridge soundworks DTT3500s.
