Maxtor 120MB, which was a HUGE step up from the 10MB unit we had been using. At that time I was using a PC at work, that operated with two 5.25" floppies, and no HDD at all.

Had a 20mb MFM drive in my 8088... lol

When I upgraded to my 486, I had one and then two 40mb drives.

Then I got a 210mb drive.

Then 2.5gb.

Then 18gb.

Then 45gb.. lol

No, they certainly don't. I have a 420mb Seagate with the cover pried off sitting on my desk being used as a coaster. If I plugged it in, it'd probably still work

I have a REALLY old hard drive in my room... it is just a single platter that is a little bit bigger than a record. I have no idea where it came from or how big it is.

Edit: I just dug it out of the back of my closet. It is actually 4 big platters sitting in this case. It says "3M Scotch 939 80A" on it.

14MB HDD in a IBM 8088. Next one was in a 486 about 20MB-100MB. Then another was a pentium no clue (family got rid of system because they thought it was infected by a trojan when it was really I deleted the windows directory :Q "I was only trying to save space!" Then 3GB in HP P200 Desktop, 2.1GB in Fujitsu Laptop (1997). And it continues from there...
