Inspiron 6000 Processor Upgrade Question

How can I figure out from

Inspiron 6000D, Intel Pentium M Processor 715A EA
(1.50GHz/2MB Cache/400MHz FSB)

what processor my laptop can take?

Hoping to put a 2 Ghz P-M in it.

Should be possible I would think considering they do offer up to a 2.0Ghz config on current Inspiron 6000s and they do use the same bios and board.

That and aren't the multipliers on the P-Ms locked and independent of the motherboard? All you need to do is ensure the board supports the FSB which it should support 533Mhz.

However, upgrading from your processor to a 2.0Ghz is about $700+ish. You sure you want to do this?? Not to mention the work you will go through to disassemble the casing to get to the processor in the first place. You probably have better sucesses just to overclock it to a 533Mhz bus instead using a software overclock.

Don't get the 2Ghz P-M, get the best bang for the buck chip (probly 1.7 or 1.8). But then that won't be much of a performance improvement then, will it? It seems as though leaving it alone is the best choice, yes....

Seriously, clock speed increases don't do as much for performance and $700 on a CPU is dumb. Put 1GB & 7200RPM HDD and call it a day
