Running Win Xp home (upgrade)

I'am having probs trying install games now. Dont know how this happened but started sunday . I'm getting Error messages Like " An installation support file could not be installed. Catastrophic failure.

Autorun.exe - Entry point Not found
The Procedure entry point flushfile budfers could not be loaded in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.

also while trying to run Win xp setup again i get this

Setup.exe - entry point not found

The procedure entry point RTlUnuind could not be located in the dynamic link library Kernel32.Dll.

this happens when i try too run the setup in Medal of honor or the last one being windows setup. Iam at the point where i can't install software anymore.
Anyone know what could be going on ?

are you using an nvidia video card? if so

"To resolve this issue, download and install the latest driver for your NVIDIA video adapter. For information about how to download and install NVIDIA drivers, visit the following NVIDIA Web site"

that's straight from the microsoft knowledge base

also says it may have to do with autorun being off, or if you have ez cd creator installed, or winXP doesn't recognize it

The cd drive laser may be dirty of the drive may have partially failed. If you have an additional drive in the machine try loading from it.

You said you did an Upgrade to get Windows XP Home?

What OS did you have before?

I know this isn't happy news but when you upgrade from one OS to another, (instead of doing a fresh install), you almost always run into problems down the road.

Not sure if that's the problem here though.

Are you able to read data from CD's but not install or does it not recognize anything on the CD's?

If you're able to read stuff off the CD, you may try to copy everything to your HD. This won't work with the most recent games though.

Here is my suggestion: download something that installs from the hard drive, does that work? If the problem is only happening on installs from CD, and you have more than one CDROM and assuming they are not both defective, then you have an issue with the IDE cable, (if they are on the same one), the IDE controller, the IDE driver, busmaster driver, or part of the OS that is used to translate data from the CDROM to the rest of the system. Its not impossible that a part of the OS is damaged or corrupted, it may just be one small part, but its a part you need. If thats the case, you won't be able to run setup from the cd from Windows. Can you run it from a CDROM boot?

You're not answering the questions...

1. Can you read data CDs OK?

2. Can you run programs and setups from the hard disk OK?

3. Have you tried changing your CDROM cable?

4. Have you tried running Windows Setup from the bootable CD?

You also need to run Windows Update, to make sure your system is up to date, and a virus scan as well.

If you are more specific, we might be able to help more. Error messages don't neccesarily help.
