I just purchased the following hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s. Previously I had a 120 GB WD IDE hard drive...
After I physically installed the Seagate, I tried to install Windows XP on it. Although I selected to install Windows on the Seagate, for some reason I ended up with an installation on it AND a new installation of Windows on my older IDE hard drive (so there are now two on it).
But when I tried to boot Windows from the Seagate, I get the following error: NTLDR missing. I was able to boot both Windows installations from the WD drive.
I wasn't sure why the installation wasn't working on the Seagate... so I reformatted it, totally disconnected the older drive and tried to reinstall Windows on the SATA drive... However I get the following error during set up: "unknown hard error /systemroot/system32/ntdl.ll".
Can anyone help me? I have no idea what the problem is. If I use either boot from the IDE drive, the new Seagate is recognized, I can put files on it, etc. I just can't install Windows on it and boot directly from it and I want it to be the master drive. My motherboard is a DRI LanParty nf4 ultra-d. As always, thanks for the help.
