Installation of P4 1.6AGHz on ASUS P4S333 gone horribly wrong :|

Dammit, I knew I shouldn't have exchanged my stable AMD XP 1600+ on Epox 8KHA+ rig for P4 1.6AGHz on ASUS P4S333! It all started when I couldn't get my devices on secondary channel to show. Tried everything until I found out that the secondary channel is shot. Great beginning :| I swapped the motherboards and was certain that I'll have no problems with Windows XP, so I thought this would take 15 minutes for everything. WRONG. Windows XP gave me BSOD immediately on everything, including safe boot. Great yet again. So I reinstall everything and get into Windows. Wait! Why didn't any of my USB devices get picked up? Hmm, could it be because the USB ports are all dead??? :| Could anything go worse? Of course the answer is yes. As I keep installing programs, I reboot and what's this? My computer is not seeing any of my devices even on the primary channel? I reboot again and it's not seeing anything. FVCK!!! So, I had to put my old rig back into my computer and that's where I'm posting from. Now I have to get this thing RMA'ed. Geez, I can understand one thing wrong with the motherboard, but the WHOLE motherboard being screwed up? This didn't make for a pleasant afternoon and night :| GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...

Dang, sounds like rotten luck, I had no problems with my 1.6a and P4S333.
Did you start out overclocking or default speeds?

Well I cracked the socket when undoing the lever, now I have no motherboard and probably cant get a replacement :|

Was the BSOD complaining about the IDE controllers? I ran the Windows XP installation program from DOS and chose the "repair" option to get Windows XP started after I switched to a P4-1.6A and new motherboard (I got the BSODs mentioned above), rather than reinstalling everything.

Darn shame. Sometimes it is a simple screw up (pun intended) such as mobo installation procedure. I never liked Asus implementation of their silver head screw holes - very small and a screw head could easily short the mobo. MSI's is so much better. So I always take a bit of extra care when installing. Having said that I just finished (after 2 weeks) 2 P4S 333s/1.6A combos and tried WinME/WinXP alternately. Couldn't have gone any smoother & painless - easily among my better installs to date. Stable as a rock after everything I threw at both (hours of crap - you know the drill) and each running well over 2.24Ghz.

I don't know what the BSOD was saying, there were mainly zeros, no idea. Anyway, I reinstalled it yet again on my ASUS P4S333 with having only one IDE channel working and no USB working, but it's alright right now. I've overclocked to 2.4GHz at the moment with SET@Home crunching away. I'll have to order a new one and then RMA this one, bleh.
