installed new vid card and am having other problems

:disgust:I bought a 6600gt card used from ebay. Just installed it and now I have problems. No sound. Cant get on internet. (I'm on son's computer, so at least its isolated to my computer.

I notice that the little speaker icon in the lower right area of the toolbar is gone.

I tried to update nvidia drivers before starting the swap out of vid card. Vid card came with install cd. Used that too.

Grrr. I hate computers. Help!

Sounds like you need to reinstall your chipset/audio drivers. They will be on your driver CD that came with your motherboard.

just remembered some more details. After I installed the vid card, I think windows found new hardware besides the vid card. There was something called smb controller (or sbm controller) and also there might have been something about ethernet or internet. Not sure. Anyway, I didn;'t have my nic card plugged in at that time so nothing was installed/upgraded.

Does this help pinpoint my problem (not smart ass comments, I already feel like a dumbass)

I've had this card a couple weeks but put off installing it til today. I'm off all this week and I just knew there'd be problems. I'm a glass half empty kind of guy.

Thanks all. A member advised that I had probably uninstalled my nforce chipset drivers and not just my display drivers.

Re-Installed chipset drivers and now all is well.
