Installing a computer into my car...

Having experience with this in a normal form factor, go SFF. Laptop (soundcard?), flex-ATX, or mini-ITX.

A joystick or number pad would be good basic controls.

Don't worry about a big battery or alternator--if you build from old parts or new low-power parts, all will be well in that regard.

A Yellow Top is good, and I would still pair it with an Opus power supply.

Mini-ITX.com is expensive for what they sell! They're a good resource for looking, but I would buy elsewhere.

Yellow Top is probably unnessary...only if you plan on have a professional system as well.
