Installing a second HDD...

I'd like to install an extra HDD so I have more space for storage but I have a important question I'd like to ask before I proceed.

To start off, let me explain my situation.

I have a SATA HDD that I use as my primary drive. The second drive that I wish to install is an older IDE drive.

Now if I install the drive, how do I make sure that the IDE drive isn't used for booting?

I've looked though my MB's manual, and it hardly helps. The only thing that seems remotly helpful seems to be the Boot --> Hard Disk Drives section.

For reference, my MB is an Asus A8N5X which has a Pheonix-Award BIOS.

Edit: Or will just chaning the boot order work?

You can select the sata drive as your boot drive in your bios. With some boars all you need to do is change the boot order, others require you to specifially select the boot device.

V. Easy to do, just mess with the bios settings til it boots.off the sata drive

Also, if you don;t have anything on your second disk except files then it will be passed over during startup anyway.

I just thought of another question.

Does the IDE drive need to be set as master or slave? (Master, I suppose)

You set the drive to Master if it is the only drive on the IDE cable, or if it occupies the first plug on the cable. (Some drives have a setting known as "Single Drive" You would use this setting instead of Master if this is the case)
