Installing additional hard drives on Solaris

Hi all,

I need to install additional 9 GB hard drives to a few Solaris workstations. I have never done this in a Unix machine, I have done this 1000 times in a windows box. Could someone tell me what I need to do, operating system wise and hardware wise to get these drives installed? I would really appreciate it! Thanks.

As far as hardware wise, it depends on the hardware you have. Basically attatch it to the right part of the right cable or slide it into the right slot. Of course, if you have Solaris x86, you should know by now how to put a hard drive in the machine, it isn't much different.

On the software side, run a format, select the new drive (you can run format before physically installing the hard drive to figure out what you have, I'm not sure if the newest drive is always the last on the list), and follow the instructions. Then create a mount point, edit /etc/vfstab, and you are done.
