Alpha 8045 on an Athlon XP 1700 with a MSI K7T-Tubro Limited. This is going to be the fist I?ve installed a HS/F via the 4 mounting holes so I want to make sure I do it right the first time. Anyone have any good advice so don?t end up killing my nice/yet to arrive XP 1700?

Take your time and follow the directions. When tightening the screws you have to do it in a criss cross fashion. It explains in the directions. Just do a few turns of the screw driver and goto the next one. If you take your time and tighten the screws evenly you won't have a problem. Its a great heatsink though. Good choice.

I agree with caenus, unless you drop the damn thing on the chip this is a very stable heatsink. I remember having a heart attack when my screwdriver slipped when I was installing the retail heatsink on a P3. Putting the 8045 onto the cpu was so easy it was almost a letdown (ok so I need to get my excitement in other ways )

Like caenus said, tighten the screws diagonaly. This gives you even pressure on the CPU core. If the pressure is uneven then the heatsink wont be square on the core and wont cool nearly as well.

when you are tightening the screws it IS NORMAL for the plastic nuts on the backside of the MoBo to turn with the screw once it bottoms out in the standoff. DO NOT put a wrench or pliars on them trying to hold them still and tighten further. it will only strip the threads. (they are spinning because the screws are bottomed out in the standoffs and CANNOT tighten further.

Make sure to use the right washers for the standoffs. If installing everything outside of case, make sure 8045 doesn't block any screw holes for m/b to bolt to chassis. I experienced this with the Abit KR7A. Other than that, follow directions, and take your time.

Unless you are using the Epox 8k7a! There is a little component back there that will get ripped off if one of the nuts turns. Doing so will KILL your board! GO HERE to see if there are any issues with your board. Take your time and be carefull of your choice of washers. I used the ones with the notch on them. They are designed for boards with larger holes. Well mine are not that large and it caused my HS to not have 100% contact with the chip. It died!

Ouch, sorry bout the dead CPU MoFunk??

Yeah, I checked that page b4 I purchased the HS and it didn?t say there was any issues with my Turbo Limited so I guess I?m in the clear on that front.

Thanx for the advice everyone
