I just installed BeOS and am trying to install some applications such as VNC and Bezilla. Both require running them from the terminal, but when I run the commands they output errors and never run. I am certain I have the x86 binaries and all that.

Anything simple I missed, I am not familar with BeOS.

thanks

Not real sure about VNC but I had no trouble installing the latest Mozilla into BeOS with its installer, I don't know why it would have to be installed from the terminal, what version are you trying to install? Most BeOs apps just have to be expanded and then there is an executable that will launch the app, just make sure you expand the package in a place like the apps folder.

Even double clinking the mozilla executable gives me this error: "File is mistakenly marked as executable" and nothing runs.

I don't know what executable you are clicking but try and expand the files into a folder in apps then from there you should just be able to launch Mozilla by clicking on mozilla.

Sounds like a corrupt install there -- try to redownload and get it again.

Also, Mozilla is a nasty, bloated pig for BeOS. I would suggest getting Opera for Be. Its much faster, stable and reliable, compared to Mozilla (I used 0.9.7 Mozilla).

vash I agree that Opera is very good for Be but the 3.62 version is pretty dated compared to Opera version 6 which is available for Win and Linux which is by the way my default browser in Windows XP. Also Opera for Be's free version is ad supported, which is OK but if you buy it to get rid of the ads you pay for an old browser with not very good support. On the other hand while I too do agree that typically Mozilla has been bloated in the past the new version 0.9.8 is very good and seems pretty fast, and has all the features of the Win32 and Linux versions, the Mozilla team seems to have made huge advances in this version, even for Be.

I extracted it, and then clicked on the file named "mozilla"

Pretty simple, but it still gave me that error.

I do agree that the verzion of Opera is a bit old, I found it almost as supported, but I never had the problems with the ads because I cracked it using the hex editor in Be.
