I recently put a new hard drive in my computer and I need help installing the drivers. I have downloaded the correct drivers but am having trouble opening/running the files on my computer.

Let me know if you can help me out. Thanks

usually a new hard drive would not really require any user intervention with regard to drivers, can you elaborate on what you mean?

I installed a 1tb drive...and nothing is really working (internet, dual monitors (no video card drivers). It's not really working all that great.

Any idea?

Have you installed your operating system yet?

You'll need to do that before you install anything else.

Once your OS is installed, Windows will automatically install many of your device drivers.

Yes, I installed the win xp with the cd that came with my dell--there was a drivers cd as well, but I can't find it.

So, I downloaded all the drivers on my thumb drive (typed in the service tag) and they're on my thumb drive, but now I cannot get them to open up/work/do they're magic.

Thanks! This is really pissing me off (I thought I was tech savvy, but apparently not)

Is XP not recognizing your thumb drive or is the driver .exe not starting?

What Dell model is it?

Try copying the files to a folder on your computer and running them from there, instead of running them from the thumb drive.

And are they .exe files?

Before I PM you with a list, what drivers do you already have on the drive?

Paladin is right...move them to the desktop if possible and try from there.

Of course, if for what ever reason, the USB isn't working right...then we have other issues, but it SHOULD be working on default Windows drivers.

What model is your Dell?

I have seen some older Dell XP versions pre-SP1 or SP1 have problems with USB until you get the chipset drivers installed.

Right now I have the folder on my desktop. There is a download list and an iso file. I unzip the drivers and I have a folder with 63 items in it. None open (.mdm files or a couple that look like little screen pictures).

I also can't get on the internet or set up the dual monitors (i literally just put in a new drive reinstalled win xp) Here is where I stand.

I recommend you reinstall your old hard drive if it's good to get you going again. You can then download each driver that you need and get them ready for another try at the new HD. We can help you plan better for the next attempt.

What is the Dell model?

I'm assuming you have another way to get to the internet since you have already downloaded something. Download the following driver .exe files to a thumb drive and copy them to your E510 desktop.

Chipset - Install this one first

Network - Install this one second. You should be able to get to the internet after installing this one.

Video - Could be ATI, nVidia or Intel. Need to figure this out before you can install video driver. If you PM me your service tag I can figure it out.

Audio - Install this one if you have onboard audio - i.e. you don't have a Creative Sound Blaster PCI audio card.
