Installing my new P4 1.80A 512 -KB L2

The heatsink/fan combo that came w/ the P4 seems to be fairly impressive,
but being somewhat of a novice, I'd appreciate any input here prior to the install. The fan is a Sanyo-Denki and there is somekind of a square
black thermal pad on the back. Will this pad be sufficient or should I attempt to remove it (how to) and apply Silver Artic 3? I'm assuming its
one or the other, but not in conjuction with each other?

Some people wil tell you to remove the factory pad because it's not as effective as using ASII/III. I'd say if you're not going to OC, go ahead and leave it on.

If you're going to OC, remove it thoroughly and use ASIII. I use acetone and a plastic scraper (AKA a credit card) to get it all off. It goes like this: layer of blackstuff/aluminum foil-like layer/another layer of black stuff. Make sure you get it all .

If you are gonna oc, then your better of removing the pad now while it hasn't melted. At this stage it's much easier to take out. I did mine and applied some artic silver 3. Seems to be working ok ( still breaking the cpu in ).
