hey... i was wondering... i currently have a 4200 rpm HDD and am gonna get a 7200 rpm HDD .... now currently the OS is installed on the 4200 RPM HDD ...

1) when i get the new hdd , do i need to install an os on the new hdd coz i wanna boot from the 7200 rpm hdd and use the 7200 rpm hdd as my primary hdd and the 4200 rpm hdd as a backup drive ( for more storage space ) ...

2) If so i do the above ( pt. 1 ) then will the 2 os's on both the hdd's conflict with each other ( both the os will be Win xp home instaled from the recovery cd i got with my toshiba ) ??

thanks

P.S: plz excuse me if the above doesnt make any sense. im totally confused

Jai,
You have a few options.

1) You can install the new Hdd and reinstall the OS from your recovery Cd's. But that will install alot of Toshibas junk along with it.

2) You could go out and purchase an OEM OS of XP Pro or Home and start nice and fresh.

As for your second question of Dual Boot probs that will only come in to play if you install both Hdd's inside the computer as most systems can't dual boot from USB or Firewire. I would suggest a fresh install of XP pro and then add toshiba software as needed just copy the whole CD to a Folder on ur drive. Then wipe the 4200 clean reformat it and purchase a external case for it like this one. If you have any questions please ask.

Will

hey...

well i plan to put both HDD's in my laptop

so from what i understand i can

Insert both hdd's in the laptop and use the recovery disk to install the win xp home on the 7200 ( i dont mind the toshiba junk ) ....

but then i think : if i install an os on the 7200, then both the hdd's will have the same os... so wont that in any way coz problems????? or maybe i could just boot from the 7200 rpm and use the old hdd for storage ( and not booting from it ) ... would that be how it would work??

i really dont wanna get win xp pro or external cases ,etc and incur any additional expenditure / problems

thanks much for ur help m8.. appreciate it..

I don't know of any laptops out there that can hold two hard drives. I imagine there may be some but I would think this would be extremely rare. I would think your laptop will only hold one drive. You will have to do what ShellGuy said.
