Installing Redhat 6.2 RPMS in 6.1

I was wondering how compatible Redhat 6.2 RPMs are with a 6.1 system. We have a couple of 6.1 boxes and whenever Redhat releases a security (or bugfix) update, they typically release updated 6.2 RPMs, but no 6.1 RPMs. Is it safe to go ahead and install 6.2 RPMs in 6.1 in most cases? I have done it once or twice with smaller programs (mgetty comes to mind), but never pulled the trigger on larger pr
ograms...

Go ahead with the 6©2 RPM's© The only problem you'll have is with 7©x RPM's© Those use RPM 4©0 and that database uses a different format© Also, the compiler used to make the 7©x's is that 2©96 monstrosity which I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole©

Thanks for the answer, I figured that was pretty much the case, but wanted to be sure...

I wouldn't dare install a 7.x rpm on a 6.x system...

Well... you would be suprised just how much stuff will work from one version to the next... the only thing that really caused mass changes was when all the Linux distributions went from glibc 1.x to 2.x... and then I remember how much trouble we all had about 5 years ago when they all changed to the "aout" binary file format... whooo that was a big change.
