Installing Windows XP in ASUS P8P67 Deluxe Sandy Bridge Build

I am installing Windows XP in my newly-built Sandy Bridge system, and the MOBO manual says to load the Intel PCH and AHCI drivers by pressing <F6> during the
OS install and to use a USB floppy drive. Which drivers are these and where do I find them - are they under the SATA category for the P8P67 board under the Download section of the ASUStek website? If these are the ones; the Marvell AHCI Driver V1.0.0.1051 for Windows XP is 2.42 MB, and the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver software V10.0.0.1046 for Windows XP is 250.78 MB. How do I load drivers of this size from a floppy disk? Thanks in advance for the help!

250MB??? Maybe if it included every version of RST ever made...if it looks too big, you're probably looking at the wrong file.

I should've realized that the 250MB download did contain every RST driver known to man. I figured out after further research that for 32-bit XP I need the following files: IAAHCI.INF, IAAHCI.CAT, IASTOR.INF, IASTOR.CAT, IASTOR.SYS, and TXTSET.OEM; which were all contained in the link you sent me. Now it makes sense! All six files add up to about .46 MB - much more user-friendly for a USB floppy. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

I finally got around to loading those files, but I can't still load XP. When prompted on the screen for my device I am given 19 different choices (ie: Intel 5 Series port SATA ACHI Controller, etc.). I chose the Intel Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller as directed to in the MOBO manual. I have AHCI Mode selected in the BIOS. Are there any other settings I have to change to load XP? I keep getting the error message that there's a problem with my hard drives and Windows is being shutdown to protect my system. It also says to check for viruses, connections, bad controllers, etc. I've checked everything. My hard drives are attached to the Intel controller, so I am at a loss as to what to do...Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your XP, is it an SP3 disk? You may need to install a slipstreamed version with SP3 as that is the only one with SATA supprt.

I am using XP SP3. I have heard of slipstreaming XP with SATA drivers. But the MOBO manual indicates that adding the drivers with a USB floppy drive is the way to do it. Is slipstreaming complicated?

You just need to select the correct driver, not all of them. = ICH10R SATA AHCI Controller

And make sure the install/boot drive is connected to the Intel controller, not one of the third-party secondary controllers (e.g. Marvell or whoever).

Seems to me I had the same issue when trying to downgrade & install XP in one of my notebooks. Almost by accident (accidental stroke of genius - ha) notice in one of the files (iastor.inf or textsetup.oem) that [Defaults] scsi = Line Item was not set to reference the correct component [line item] for my particular controller. I just set the line item to the relevant component in the list for my controller (USE THE EXACT TEXT IN THE COMPONENT LIST), saved the file and then the driver installed properly as advertised.

Always use notepad for this - actually that's what it was originally provided for (ie, code mods).

Thanks tcsenter! That was it...I had connected the optical drive to the Marvel connector and not to the Intel one. I was just reading about that issue in the MOBO manual when you posted that reply. I am not formatting the HD for the OS installation. Cheers!

The optical drive needs to be connected to the highest numbered Intel SATA port (#5), while the hard drive should be connected to one of the lower-numbered SATA ports (#0->#3).

I did had the optical drive connected to #5 and not #6 on the Intel SATA port, and I loaded XP and all my drivers, and everything was working fine. When I went to partition the rest of the HD, I noticed that default letter for the next partition was E, and not D. I assumed this was because I had not put the optical drive on #6. I did this, and not my system won't boot into XP. I just get a flashing cursor and black screen. I tried switching it back, and it doesn't work. How do I get my system to recognize my OS installation again? Thanks!:'(

I have a P8P67 PRO.

I have 8 total sata ports,
first 4 are 3gbps ports, next 2 are Intel 6gbps ports and the last 2 are Marvel 6 gbps.
On which ports should the HDD and ODD be connected?

My HDD is a WD5002AALX Black 6gbps!
