installing xp x64 after vista x86

initially, i installed winxp x64 and tried to install vista x86 after. vista started getting moody and decided not to install. i blanked all my partitions and tried it the otherway. i installed vista and then tried to install xp. surprise, surprise, that didn't work either.

when i installed vista after xp, the installer complained that it couldn't find something (it's late, and it was annoying, so i don't quite remember) and wouldn't install. when i tried installing XP after vista, the installed complained about some un-fixable corruption on the C drive.

what's the deal? how do i get both of these OSes installed?

First you should install XP and then Vista on separate partitions because vista uses a Bootloader instead of boot.ini or to fix the Vista boot problem you must first boot from Vista DVD and select 'repair' option- it actually rebuilds the boot menu by searching OS's installed on your hdd.

Now within Vista you can modify boot configuration using 'BCDEDIT' command line parameter or you can also use VistaBoot Pro ( http://www.vistabootpro.org/index.php ) if you find command line options confusing.

i tried that, but vista wouldn't install afterwards.

is there no way to do the XP install right now, and then run the vista repair option?
