I am thinking of ordering this 7" x 3" cheese cake pan for my Instant Pot:

Fat Daddios Anodized Cheesecake Pan

I have that pan & it's awesome! To make it even easier, use Baking Goop:

Then line the bottom with a sheet of parchment. Just trace the removable circle around a piece of parchment paper, take an Exacto knife or scissors, and it to fit. Slides off easy & less mess to clean up! I use pre-cut parchment sheets for convenience, as the ones on the rolls drive me nuts:

You can also use that pan for Instant Pot egg loaf:

Super easy way to do egg salad, egg salad sandwiches, breakfast burritos, etc.

I like the Duo60. It's not too complicated and it's rock solid. 6qt is the best size for most people.

Amazon sells massive amounts of IP on Black Friday.

The reviews at Costco.com for that IP... many customers complain mightily that for sous vide, it's a fail. Doesn't have temperature readout and the temperatures achieved seem to be quite a bit over what's programmed. Mind you, I know next to nothing about sous vide. Now, maybe it's possible to work around the problem, use some strategy where sous vide would work out for this thing. Anyway, I figure that it might make a great pressure cooker, sans sous vide. What do you make of this?
Like I said, I prefer the simpler Instant Pot Duo60.

1 - the inner pot is steel, not aluminum

2 - the standard size is 6-quart. I have the smaller 3-quart, but it cooks a little bit too hot imo. If I were to buy again, I would purchase a 2nd 6qt. I also have an 8qt, which is nice for large stuff, and a monster 14qt, for huge amounts of food (events & meal-prep...10 pounds of chili whoohoo!)

3 - that is an amazing model for $65

4 - yes, the sous-vide function is pretty useless. Part of the problem is that the 6qt tub is a bit too small to do much of anything with, as well as accuracy issues, from what I've read. The Anova Nano is only sale for $79 right now. At this point I probably have more recipes for my SV machine than I do for my IP...they're both amazing machines & make cooking at home so much easier, especially if you're just cooking for yourself.

Yeah I figured. My concern for AL is only for my current pressure cooker which is hell of ancient. It actually has a wooden handle. It was missing the weight on top so I jury rigged one from a large socket wrench socket and some rubber this-and-that I had lying around. It works. But it's hell of pitted, if it was ever anodized, that wore of long ago. It's been my only pressure cooker for decades. But I figure SS is the way to go.

So, you like that 65 buck IP. Just not for sous vide. I think I will pick one up next time I hit Costco, in about 2 weeks.

imo anytime you can get a 6-quart IP with all the features for under $99, you got a great deal. Plus it has more safety features than your old one!

I picked up an instapot last year, I don’t use it regularly but I will say it’s very easy to clean and feels well made.

Search slickdeals for the model you want. They've had some insane deals on instants pots. I think the best I've seen were at kohl's cardholder including the duo60 for $35 after multiple coupons.

For reference only: https://slickdeals.net/f/13538488-k...oker-35-more-free-store-pickup?src=SiteSearch

A decent price is $50 to $60 for the duo60.
Do you think the 6qt. Duo60 (at $50.99 see below) is a better idea than the Costco 6qt Duo Sous Vide 9 in 1 (until Xmas eve at $64.99)?

Slickdeals listing for the Duo60 at Kohl's until Nov. 29 for $50.99

The 7-in-1 is the base model that I recommend to everybody, because you can do 99% of the recipes out there. A few call for specialty buttons (ex. "cake" button, but you can just do that manually) or for a larger size (ex. full ear of corn in the 8qt size), but the 7-in-1 6qt is the way to go.

It looks like they're both about the same, other than the SV function. Pay an extra $10 if you want to play with it sometime, or save $10 if you don't think you'd ever use it!

Thank you. I've got the Duo60 in my cart at Kohl's. The offer is good until Nov. 29, i.e. Black Friday. Coupon code GIVETHANKS. $50.99 + tax, free shipping. I'm gonna wait until Wednesday to pay because I'll be out of town until Saturday evening, don't want it to arrive before next week.

There have been several specials at Kohl's for this, sometimes overlapping. They had from 1AM - 3AM today the same machine for $6 cheaper, so said at the Slickdeals thread for this. I'm OK with this deal!

This is limited to either of two colors: White or Teal.

There are over 37 thousand reviews for this at Amazon! I'm reading some of the questions and there's a whole lot of discussion of whether the 3qt is better than the 6qt. Hard to tell, some people who cook for 2 or more much prefer the 3qt and have gotten rid of their qt. A few people who cook for one find the 3qt too small for them. Trade offs. The 6qt is bigger, heavier. I suppose for some things one is better than they other. Can't see getting both right now. I see endless posts by people who are crazy about these things. Fact is, AFAIK I've never seen one in person or eaten a meal prepared in one and don't understand all the excitement. I have cooked with a gas range forever. Some people are saying they've given up cooking in anything else. Kind of boggles my mind.

I can't comment on the comparison. Kohl's had the duo60 for $51 plus $15 Kohl's cash just yesterday but that deal is dead. I paid $70 on amazon prime day 2 or 3 years ago. Keep an eye out on slickdeals every day or do a search for the model. I wouldn't use a store name as it brings up too many results.

An instant pot is good for putting your food in one pot, pushing a button or two and walking away and your food will be done in X amount of time. I also recently watched a video that said some food retains more nutrients when pressure cooking.

Amazon runs out of them every Black Friday.

The Duo60 is by far my favourite kitchen appliance ever. There are lots of great recipes all over the internet and youtube. Some good youtube channels are Six sisters stuff, pressure luck cooking and Twin Cities Adventures (cheesecake recipes).

I have the 3qt...it's not tremendously smaller, but it is smaller, which is nice if you need the space on your countertops. I can take a side-by-side photo if you want. My only problem is that the heating element is similar to the 6qt, so you have to be a little more careful with the heating, as it tends to burn sometimes. Nearly every recipe out there is written for the 6qt tho, and you lose nothing other than a few extra inches of physical space in comparison, so I'd definitely go with the 6qt if I were you.

Ah, I would have bought the Duo60 at Kohl's online this morning but for the fact that I'll be out of town Thursday through Saturday. Dang... says out of stock now at Kohl's online. Had it in my cart ready to make payment. It said delivery was anticipated Monday, IIRC, but I didn't want to chance it. Well, no hurries, maybe I'll find a deal BF or CM on it... or later... or pay more.

Yup, I'll go with the 6qt, maybe get the 3qt sometime later. I doubt very much I'll keep it on the counter, though, there's just no counter space left in my kind of medium sized kitchen, what with a bread machine, blender, toaster oven, microwave and a couple of stacked 300 capacity CD players. I figure to store it either under a counter in a cabinet or the cabinet in my gas range... which I haven't been using for anything. It's a dark musty, probably dirty space but I can clean it up, I guess. I'm pretty sure there's space in there for it. Or, maybe I'll find another place for my bread machine... I only use that every 2-4 weeks. However, in a review (I think) it was said that you should have a lot of space above an instant pot because it vents steam. My counter has cabinets above it, not sure how that would work out.

It's because of a combination of the automation (push-button operation with repeatable results) & community. I mean, let's look at the metrics:

1. Let's say you feed yourself 3 times a day

2. That's 1,095 meals annually that you're on the hook for

3. If you have leftovers for lunch, that's still 730 meals you have to figure out (breakfast + dinner) EVERY YEAR FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!!!

To elaborate:

1. You're free to eat out all the time, but the specs are awful (crazy-high sodium, preservatives, etc.) & the cost is mega-high (even cheap stuff compounds...a $5 breakfast at Dunkin can run you $150/mo if you go there every day before work). I enjoy eating out all the time, but if I do it too much, eventually I get sick of it & need a homemade meal, haha!

2. Cooking is a LOT of work: selecting/writing/saving recipes, meal selection for the week, pantry inventory management, grocery shopping, the process of cooking, eating, cleaning up your tools/workstation/dishes, etc.

3. Anything that can aid the process by making it cheaper, easier, healthier, better-tasting, more consistent, produce less waste due to screw-ups in the cooking process, etc. is most welcome!

The Instant Pot needs some qualifications:

1. I prefer to call it the "AutoPot" (roll out!) because it's more automatic than it is instant. All IP recipes lie: you have to preheat, cook, and in some cases, wait for it to depressurize instead of letting it come down to room pressure on its own (depends on the recipe).

2. It's not a universal machine...but it is a near-universal machine! It's one gadget that is a serious multi-tasker! Cheesecake? Apple turnover filling? Lava cakes? Dulce de leche? Blueberry compote? Kalua pig? Chili? Crack chicken? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and more!

I like to cook...when I'm in the mood. Otherwise, it's just another chore that I have to do. But I love to eat, and save money, and I like that process to be simple, and the Instant Pot is just a really great tool for all of that! Not to mention the community support...if you're on Facebook, check out our group here - we have over a million members already!

People come up with ridiculous stuff all the time...lately I've been messing around with Pancake Bites (blueberry pancake, banana bread, churro bites, etc.). Indian food? Italian food? Chinese food? Soups? Check, check, check, check! The limitation isn't the machine or the resources available to support it, as much as your own personal relationship with the machine & how often you're willing to use it. There are days when I use mine for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and drinks, haha! It's like an Everlasting Gobstopper but for geeking out in your kitchen, lol.

Yeah, I have a rack of appliances under my stairs because I have a tiny half-galley kitchen. I keep my most-used ones upstairs (Panasonic toaster oven, Mellow sous-vide, Instant Pot, etc.).

Yes, the top vents steam & can sometimes shoot a couple feet high, so you will not want to vent it underneath a cabinet. Some people choose to operate their IP's on their stovetops, because it's a flat surface that either has an open top or a ventilation system, but you have to be EXTREMELY careful that you don't turn on the range while using it, which sounds obvious, but tons & tons of people ruin their IP's every year because they melt them on their stoves on accident. I talked my neighbor into getting one & she melted her Instant Pot on her stove a few months later because of that exact reason...tiny kitchen & forgot that it wasn't heat-proof like a skillet (fortunately she liked it so much she bought a replacement!).

Falling in love with an Instant Pot is a bit like developing any relationship...you have to get to know it & work with it to understand it & see what it can do. I still discover new stuff to use it for all the time, like the Pancake Bites recently! Or egg loaf for egg salad sandwiches & breakfast burritos. Or amazing sushi rice. The list is endless! It's really only limited to how you choose to interface with your machine. I gave my brother one for Christmas a few years back & it literally sat in the box until I visited him again the next Christmas & walked him through using it. He's into bodybuilding & literally only uses it for making chicken, but it eliminates making struggle chicken (i.e. dry) & does an awesome job for him, haha! It could do so much more for him, but that's the level of comfort he's willing to live with.

I can see I'm going to have a lot of fun with an Instant Pot. It's partly the automation thing. I regard my bread machine, even my microwave and toaster ovens as primitive robots. I figure the IP has a similar character. I should watch some videos and I'll for sure check out the online recipe scene for IPs, people say that's crucial for getting at what it's about, what's possible.

I sometimes struggle for new ideas for meals. I used to have some meals I could eat daily, and literally did FOR YEARS! I have a cookie recipe that I devised myself that I literally ate every day for breakfast, sometimes twice, even three times in one day. I loved it so much. I did this for years! I finally gave it up. I can still make it, I have a mix on hand that makes it quick. I could literally start preparation and have it in the oven in less than 10 minutes. After so many minutes, I'd flip the cookies over (88 mini-cookies) and reinsert in the oven and cook 'til crisp. Banana Bread Cookies, I called them, made with a mixture of nuts that I prepared myself.

For many years I made myself a burrito every day. Developed a fairly complex system. Loved them. Gave that up finally. Partly because of the big tortillas I'd buy from Costco. Too much starch.

Does Amazon typically have a Black Friday special on the Duo60? Right now it's $79.00. They're pushing an 8 in 1 wifi IP for ~$90 in a pre-BF special.

I got a 8qt ninja foodi xl last week. First day I got it I made pulled pork. Friday I made pot roast with carrots and potatoes. Last night I used the air fryer function and made egg rolls and buffalo wings. Its big but its a pretty neat machine.
