Insufficient Power from my Power Supply?

Currently, my rig consists of an e6300 overclocked to 3.0ghz with a vcore of 1.3375 as stated specifically in BIOS. I've got several fans in a push - pull configuration.

Originally, I had a 7900gs that was not overclocked and have by now moved onto the 8800gts.

My power supply is an Antec NeoHE 500W and I thought this would be sufficient for me to run my rig without the fear of BSODs and the like.

However, while I have been playing Company of Heroes for 15 or so minutes, I would get the dreaded sync-error, a sudden BSOD, and then a restart a second later.

I suspect that it may be my power supply but I find that surprising because the Antec NeoHE supplies approximately 45-50amps on the 12v rail, which is more than enough for an 8800gts and a core 2 duo.

Could anyone shine light on my problem. Any advice from people running a similar rig would be much appreciated. (8800gts with an overclocked e6x00 running with a vcore of around 1.325-1.35v)

Thanks. I want to have some feedback before I get a more powerful psu.

Does it run ok with stock settings?

Also, if you still have the 7900gs, why not try it with that card? COH should run ok on it.

500W should be plenty.

Well, I sold my 7900gs but it ran absolutely fine on the 7900gs.

Another thing I have noticed is that I am experiencing lag in the BIOS itself as I am changing from one menu to another menu. I never faced anything like that ever. Is that even possible - lag in BIOS?

Anyways, the 8800gts has not been overclocked at all, although I have adjusted anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering settings...currently I have them now being controlled by the application/game. Even after setting it to "3D Stock" settings, I still experienced the BSOD and the subsequent restart...

This is puzzling.

I didn't overclock anything at all. I've overclocked my processor but that has already been tested for stability via Orthos for almost 7 hours.

You got to run the CPU at stock speed to rule that out.

People and myself included, run stress tests and find their overclock "100%" stable. Yet one game or demo that comes can causes exits to desktop, freezes, etc. May or may not be the game itself the problem, but it can expose instability with an overclock even if no other app did. Modern games are much more troublesome with overclocking. I think devs and support people get mad that they get all these problems that they look into as if it were a bug when it is the user's fault. Overclocks that I thought sure were stable would end up being the culprit.

So I'm not saying that is the problem, but you can't ever troubleshoot and pinpoint the problem unless everything is ran at stock.

Any regardless, unless that Antec is faulty, it can easily supply your system.

I would see how it runs un-overclocked first. It might be a bad videocard or driver issue.
