Integrated Onboard Audio problems

Where to start? I have an Asus P6X58D Premium mobo that is giving me headaches with the onboard audio. I have downloaded the latest drivers from Realtek, but that has not resolved the situation.

I am able to hear my music, but I get no sound when I play my movies on my HDD. Also, when I plug in my iPod it totally crashes the system. I went into safe mode and plugged in my iPod and got an error message that there was a problem with the audio driver. I get the same message when trying to play COD4.

Any suggestions? At this point I am ready to give up.

So did you update to the drivers labeled "Driver V6.0.1.5973 for 32/64bit Windows Vista & Windows 7.(WHQL)" on the ASUS website? Found here: http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=wurRaDZ8lo4Ckukj

This is my opinion, but personally I no longer trust the realtek series of onboard sound. For the most part it works, but there's always little glitches. I went out and bought an ASUS Xonar DS and haven't looked back since, it was a wise purchase. I would actually recommend that, but it sounds like you still have just some sort of driver issue.

I was looking at the same card. Do you think this will solve my problems?

I originally downloaded those drivers from the Asus website and had the same problems. I used driver sweeper to clean them and downloaded the latest from Realtek but that didn't solve the problem either. I'm back to the Asus drivers.

I'm sure it will fix your issue, as long as you just disable the onboard audio and then install the ASUS one with the updated drivers. I am really glad I upgraded mine.

Here was my issue... I had Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on my computer, I would play it, and then my whole computer would just freeze up with a sound loop. I had to hard reset my computer every time, and it might've happened after a few hours of game play, or maybe just like 2 minutes. It was completely random, but it turns out that after a load of research that the realtek sound cards are just pieces of junk.
