I currently have an SB Live! card hooked up to 4.1 speakers, which contains its own headphones port as is common these days.
I now want to hook up an analog computer headset to the sound card, which I believe is designed to connect directly to the sound card's microphone-in port and also the line-out port (for the headphones). I am not interested in a digital USB headset at this time.
Intending to use both the speakers and the headset (at different times), do I need a basic splitter on the sound card line-out so that I don't need to swap the connectors back and forth?
I'm pretty sure I can't simultaneously connect the headset to the sound card's microphone-in and to the speakers headphones port a few feet away. Even if I could, I'd rather not have to doctor the headset cable and have them dangling all over my desk anyway. TIA for any clues.
