Naoh? what speed are you runnin your q9550 at. I also have a 8400 running at 467x9 24/7 and love it. Just iching to upgrade, most extensive stuff I do is a bit of gaming and running my 26" monitor at 1920x1200 with a 4870 vid card. Do do a few decoding jobs or downloading and game at times at the same time. Do you think it was worth it for you? Or anyone else care to answer?

For those with Abit motherboards, Abit does have beta bioses that support E0. I've got Abit IP35PRO, this morning flashed my BIOS to beta 18 version, installed q9550 E0, running at 3.4GHz now (no interest in overclocking more or finding max overclock for that matter, 3.4 is plenty for me).

Seriously, if you have yours at 4.2ghz then going to this might have you disappointed if all you do is game and download a few things while gaming. To me, it was only worth it because I had my e8400 at about 4ghz and now I have the Q9550 at 3.65 with only 1.328 at full load. My main goal is to get it to AT LEAST 3.8ghz, so we'll see what happens tonight. I do a bit of encoding and photoshop and those are the only areas where i feel like this thing shines. Other than that I see barely any difference (other than a bit more multitasking ability, but the E8400 was able to handle that beautifully).

After selling me e8400, the upgrade would barely cost me anything and that is the only reason why it's worth it to me. I wouldn't have shelled the money for this thing otherwise.

Picked mine up, it's not significantly faster than my E8400, but I seem to be able to multitask more. That's about it. For the price it's a decent upgrade considering I almost have it at the same clock speeds as my E8400.

Any idea how much higher the idle power consumption is when going E8400 -> Q9550? Was contemplating the same upgrade.

No idea.

Anyone else think this particular model will get any cheaper? Or is this basically it?

Cheaper? This is it, baby. Next step is EOL. Doubt we'll see any more price drops.

They are not going to stop manufacturing them anytime real soon. Price drops will probably happen before they do.

Just dump the 9550 in your P35, thats what I did. Running at uh 400x8.5. You'd be better off to just do the CPU I had an E6300.

(I was tricky and installed mine without removing from case I have a fairly large tower cooler too)

Some P35's will NOT work with the Q9550 - I found out my Abit IP35-E did not (may have worked with C1 - Abit quit updating their BIOS...), and I had to get a P45 board. Not a big loss, as the IP35-E only cost me around $60 about 1.5 years ago...

Wow that sucks. I stick to Asus. I have the original P5B P965 board bought in 7/2006 and the it supports all quads including E0 Q9550 they even updated for the new R0 Q8400 stepping just recently.

The IP35 MB is quirky. When it runs fine it's great but when it doesn't it's a pain. I hate the double pre-post the most.
