This is my prediction. :hmm:

The Thursday 4/1 AM Shellshocker will be an Intel 40GB X25-V SSD.

If anyone is getting ready to buy one, I would suggest at least waiting until Thursday morning to see what pricing will be. Newegg has disappointed me lately with their Shellshockers, but who knows...

Last time they had these on Shellshocker the price was very disappointing at around $120 or so, the same as Amazon's normal price. Let's hope they do a bit better this time.

I got one from amazon for $115 a few weeks ago minus a 25 coupon code. These things were supposed to be priced BELOW $100! You hear that etailers! Below $100!

On the otherhand, I just bought a x-25m 160gb for $380 on Ebay! So now I have a
1. x-25v 40gb
2. x-25m 80gb
3. x-25m 160gb!

I have the intel trifecta!

What makes you say that? Anyway... if they're in fact below $100, I may be in for two!

If I recall correctly, the MSRP for the x25-v drives was supposed to be below $100 accordign to the pre-release articles from months ago (engagdet maybe?)

When they came out, they were suddenly in retail channels without fanfare and they were in the $120 range.

The Kingston ones were supposed to be 100. Intel's MSRP is 125.

I think you are absolutely correct; Agree 100% according to my research.

Now the question is how much:\ I am thinking $105-110 free shipping.

I was hoping it was going to b the 80gb model, but now that i have research we know for sure it is 40gb.
Guess I will continue to wait as I have more important things to get right now. Will have to see my mind changes on a minute to minute basis

They quite making the Kingston essentially because they were pricing it so low. Whether it was because Intel quite selling them to them because they were undercutting them to much or because Intel jacked the price up to keep them from pricing them that low is something only they can tell you.

Kingston didn't secure TRIM rights from Intel on that drive, and it mostly killed it off.

Do explain...
If you look at the pics on newegg's site you can figure out all the shell shocker items. as for price; you can only guess. Newegg hasn't been dropping prices as much as in the past.

I was hoping Kingston SSDNow...
I do not know if the deal is still active, but I beliee Amazon is selling the Kingston version for less than $80 shipped with no rebates or anything to worry about. EDIT: looks like the deal is over now, sorry

. I thought I read that there was an issue between Intel and Kingston and Kingston had to look elsewhere; That is why they are now using Toshiba

There are work arounds to support trim on the kingston drives

Actually, Anand said that in his article. Well, he didn't say it would "MSRP" at that price, but that it would be available "under $100 after rebate."

The SSD Improv: Intel & Indilinx get TRIM, Kingston Brings Intel Down to $115
"Kingston is offering a rebate through Newegg that will apparently drop the price to $84.99."

That's the title, so I guess the Kingston would be $115 MSRP and in the article said $85AR from Newegg. In fact, a week or two after availability at Newegg, the Kingston was a Shell Shocker special for $85ARFS.

I got mine from Buy.com for $90FS no rebate. :awe:

[Not] Hot.

But, it could be depending on pricing. At minimum Shell Shockers are usually warm compared to normal Newegg pricing (which may or may not be the cheapest on the market).

If you look at the pics on newegg's site you can figure out all the shell shocker items. as for price; you can only guess. Newegg hasn't been dropping prices as much as in the past.

To elaborate, if you are on Newegg's mailing list you will get a weekly "Shell Shocker Preview" that has thumbnail pictures of upcoming deals plus a category description (such as "SSD" or "case"). If you can match up the picture to an actual item (easy with some, impossible with others) you can predict what will be offered. What you can't predict is pricing, other than it being lower than "normal" Newegg pricing. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that Shell Shockers are always free shipping, so if an item normally has shipping you would save on that plus a small price discount. Sometimes there is also a rebate on top of the price/shipping discount.

Don't forget 2% Bing cashback, and use a credit card with some kind of rewards (I get 1% cashback).

Yes, and I can tell from experience that it is easy to do and works flawlessly.

^^^ nice to know

I guess I could have added the part about shell shocker email showing the thumbnail to match on.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were the 160GB variant. Mwave had a "members only" sale on it last week for $399. Of course, like has been mentioned before, the last "shell shocker" for an Intel SSD simply brought it down to the Amazon everyday price.

To be precise, it's not a workaround. You can actually flash the Intel firmware onto the Kingston drive thus effectively turning your Kingston SSDNow into a Intel 40GB SSd.

I did it and I'm a noob.....if I can do it anyone can!

You have to look at all the Intel SSDs and match up thumbnails. Look at how the drive is angled in the thumbnail. Only the 40GB is angled that way in the photos.

If I was available sooner, I would have mentioned it in a similar fashion
