intel 760 or 955BE?

So i'm building for a friend (no, it can't wait till SB for some reason), and I have two builds:

Intel Core i5 760 2.8ghz
LiteOn Dual Layer 22x DVD RW +/-
ATi Radeon HD5770-1Gb
550W LC6550
WD 1TB 64Mb
Nanya DDR3 4Gb 1600mhz
Asus P7H55-M

or:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Quad Core
Samsung Dual Layer 22x DVD RW +/-
Asus ATI RADEON HD5770 512mb
modular 580 Watt
Samsung 1TB S-ata2 7200RPM
Mushkin 4GB DDR3 PC3 10600 1066MHZ
Asrock 870 Extreme3 AM3


This is including ocerclocking (on stock cooling), they both end up at exactly 600 euro's because of weird pricing in the netherlands, my friend plays RTS and MMORPG (1080p), but he'll also use this pc for some of the more number crushing work things he can't do on his laptop, so wich is better?

The minute someone mentions RTS/MMORPG gaming where multi-core support is lacking and performance/clock-cycle is crucial, all AMD CPUs are off the table. To put the icing on the cake, the 5770 1GB > 512mb version, which makes the AMD system even worse. For the same price, system #1 without a doubt. If you have the option, spring for the GTX460 768mb over the HD5770 for another $20-30.

i'd like that promo, but i live in the netherlands, so that 460 would amount to about 500 euros to get it in the netherlands...

LGA1156 will be dead by the New-Year thanks to SB.
So is AM3... sort of... you do have the AM3+/Bulldozer-architecture upgrade path though. It will likely cost better to initiate an AM3 setup, but I guess it's up to you.

If it were me, I would be going with the AMD 955BE.

Of course, that could be because I like AMD better than Intel. And like said above, you would have a better upgrade path in the coming future.

MentalIlness and xd_1771, there is NO upgrade path for Socket AM3. AM3 processors will work in Bulldozer motherboards, but Bulldozer CPUs won't work in AM3 motherboards. So both 1156 and AM3 are non-upgradeble.

Thuban is the best thing for AM3, Bulldozer requires AM3+, it won't work in current AM3 boards. I think Llano is still an unknown socket, but I wouldn't expect much better cpu performance out of it anyways.
