You can be a fanboi for AMD all you want, calling the athlon XP superior to ANYTHING that came out this year is just silly.

I notice that you make no mention of the P4 E.

If you don't think a mobile barton is clearly a better buy than a S478 Prescott, then call me a fanboi.

Its not even close unless you overclock... even then, 2400mhz barton vs a 3500mhz P4 with HT?

youre kidding youself, or love your little barton-m

2400 Mhz Barton is probably on par with a 3.5 P4... it might be a tad slower, but not by much.

it will probably help out the flaming thats been going in this thread and the threads that will be sure to come.

I have suggested this in the past, but everyone just ignored it. There are two serious problems with it:

-it would end the flame wars which are half of the fun on these forums
-it would reduce objectivity and would limit the effectiveness of these forums; why even have a discussion if you're only interested in buying intel products?

So where is this peteroy character anyways? Is he banned or just on vacation?

AthlonXP Mobile vs. P4E -- Better in raw performance? No. Better in price/performance? Yes, by a long shot. A P4E 2.8 costs twice as much as a Barton 2500+ Mobile (plus the higher cost of an Intel motherboard), and is unlikely (in anything but maybe a few encoding apps) to give close to double the performance, even when both are heavily overclocked. For gaming, you're much more likely to be video-card limited with *either* CPU unless you have a high-end next-gen card.

I hate fanboys of either side. No-one is willing to acknowledge what the other has accomplished.

For years, intel dominated the cpu market with the fastest and best.
Currently it is crystal clear that AMD's top stuff beats out Intels top stuff, unless your coding video. However AMD also has its weaknesses, and intel wont just sit back doing nothing. I believe the nextgeneration (post netburst) of intel cpu's may once again rise to the top, and maybe not.
Intels CPU's dont keep up with AMD's cpu's when playing games and certain other application. Intel is currently having heat & leakage problems with its 90nm cpu's. AMD is just waiting to hit that same wall. And dont kid yourself -- They can't avoid it. Maybe not with 90nm, maybe with 65nm.
AMD currently has no x87 (see post in highly technical discussion) support in WinXP 64, meaning it has to do all math functionality using SSE & SSE2 instructions... guess what. Its sin/cos functions will suffer sever penalty, when that time comes. Intels pipelines are too deep and cause too many stalls during heavy branching code blocks.

Every cpu design has its flaws. no one company or its products are perfect or invinsible, so to all fanboys:

AMD did create the 64-bit instruction set that intel will be using in its own 64-bit desktop processors.

Please edumacate yourself before posting any more fanboy non-irony.

Actually no, Intel was first to come up with 64bit processor in 2000, you should educate yourself before bashing my post.

Actually it wasn't Intel or AMD, the company name I forgot right now but I'll edit later. AMD created the 64 bit extension to x86 which is what Intel will be using because AMD was the only processor that could use Windows XP for 64 bit Extended. So in this sense, Intel is copying AMD's instruction set. Please, educate yourself before speaking, or just don't speak at all.
