Question Intel ARC A380 and encoding. Any freeware to test the encoding?

I "borrowed" an A380 to check out what it can do. I do I have to give it back, hopefully it won't catch fire.

Drivers are buggy. The latest update made it unusable. I had to revert back. Youtube 4K VP9 looks good. Pretty smooth.

Now, my question is how the heck do I test something like AV1 encoding with freeware? Looks like Handbrake does not support the A380. I tried the nightly build that some one suggested, and I don't see any choice
to enable hardware acceleration and use the A380.

OBS also supports Arx, though that won't help you much if you want to compare a sample.

I don't see any choice
to enable hardware acceleration and use the A380.

You have to choose Intel QuickSync AV1 in the options.

Thank you sir. . I did find under the beta handbrake hardware presets, that I had to add AV1 QSV 2160p 4K as a choice. That was the only AV1 QSV option. It did shift the work to the A380. I am trying it right now, and it appears a bluray 1080P movie is about a 13 minute transcode to 4K. Which I don't really need the upscale, but I don't see a AV1 1080 QSV choice.

I'm probably not the right guy to listen to about PQ. I am a very casual encoder with bad eyesight. Using handbrake for everything here. The A380 is very fast, and seems to run cool. Like 55 degrees, and seems to draw little watts while doing it. Like under 30 watts, I am sure other duties would work the card out more.

I can easily say that a youtube video in 4K can look incredible, even on my lower end TCL 4 series 4K TV.

I don't see a difference between a bluray encoded to 1080p MP4, and the same movie encoded and upscaled to AV1 .

Windows media player looks better than VLC player does

Out of curiosity, what do people do with a card like this? I'm thinking content creators wanting to encode AV1 videos to upload. Cloud gamers ( actually, I just read about how that works, pretty impressive tech) . What else is done with the A380? I hear that it is a mediocre gaming card

You can change it in the video encoder options menu. Handbrake, ffmpeg, QSVENc support Arc AV1 encoding. For QSVEnc you could use the Staxrip GUI for example. For Handbrake I would recommend the latest snapshot instead of 1.6.1.
