Intel Atom 330 vs. Dual Xeon 2.4GHz

I have a couple dedicated servers for sending out lots of email/serving a few websites, and both have dual 2.4GHz Xeons. These are old single core ones with HT, and I'm looking at moving to a different provider that offers the same amount of RAM (2GB) and 500GB RAID1 for half the price.

Sending out lots of emails really pounds the CPU, so I'm wondering if the Atom 330 chips slow me down.

Current specs:
Dual Xeon 2.4GHz
2GB ECC DDR RAM
200GB RAID1 (hardware with Adaptec controller), IDE drives

New:
Intel Atom 330
2GB DDR2
500GB software RAID1, SATA

So, you're OK with no ECC? You're OK with a memory error taking the server down?

People who are using Atom in netbooks are underwhelmed with the performance. I would think for a server would be even worse with Atom.

I would not even consider anyhting without ECC for a server.

Atom won't be able to handle such a workload to begin with, but adding RAID and probably on-board NIC your server will be dog slow. As far as I know there is no Atom motherboard that allows discrete RAID cards or network cards.

Definitely stay with the dual Xeon's.

What about a Q9450?

Ignoring the ECC part, I just want something faster than these old Xeons.
