I'd rather go e.g. for a Sony Xperia Tablet Z3 Compact. 8", 1920x1200, 213.3 × 123.6 × 6.4 mm, and only 270 g (!). The Dell venue twice as thick and is almost 3 times as heavy! Sure the Dell is 10.8", but still.

Hopefully there will be Notebooks with similar specs as the Dell too though. They should not be much more expensive, since they only add a keyboard and trackpad.

that is a very nice device but not really comparable as this is a full fledged pc. i would like to see vaio come out with another tap 11 type device with core m. I would sacrifice its thinness (9.9mm) for higher battery capacity. although the tap 11 included a fan which a core m device presumably wouldnt. I mean the Surface pro 3 is 9.1mm with a fan so should be doable.

New Geekbench 3 results are up for the 5y10. This one is for the Hewlett-Packard HP ENVY x2.

The new results, shown on the right, show a pretty substantial multicore performance jump from older results in October.

Single Core - 2027
Multi Core - 4149

Big improvements in memory performance and multicore performance throughout. In comparison to the A8x, the difference mainly seems to be SHA (A8x) vs AES (5y10). Even with one less core, the 5y10 is really close the A8x.

More importantly, I think it highlights what a poor job Lenovo did with the Yoga 3 pro. HP's results with the 5y10 (1.0ghz) are actually better than the vast majority of the results for the Yoga 3 pro's 5y70 (1.3ghz).

Also, i played a little bit with Yoga 3 with Core-M at Lenovos booth and i can tell you it was very nice. Unfortunately i couldnt run any programms, i was only able to navigate through Windows 8.1. The construction is very nice and rigid but because of the very thin design i was afraid to hold it like a laptop. You have to get used to the idea that it will not brake in your hands :biggrin:

Anyway i really liked the device and i would really like to evaluate it better and make a real review.

They didnt allow me to take any pics even when I did mention it was already reviewed in the web.

So desktop Skylake and unlocked Broadwell is coming in H1/2015. Straight from the horse's mouth.
Quite a bit sooner than H2/2016 or 2017 some people predicted. Even if they get delayed I think Q3/2015 is a safe bet for desktop Skylake.
I hope Braswell will be launched in early Q2 rather than late Q2.

Cost of BOM reduction

Intel seems to have done a pretty good job, within a year reducing Bay Trail's cost deficiency from 10-15 to $5 (if you multiply by 40M, the number seems to be right indeed).

Really interesting to see Intel suddenly giving specific numbers. A bit strange that I hadn't heard of this event.

We should get more juicy details at the IM next month. Probably no 10nm wafer or roadmap, though.

Im a little bit hesitant of that roadmap and the reason is, there is no information or any dates in the bottom of the slide. This roadmap could be from last year but I don’t believe they would show an outdated roadmap today at ITC. Any way, we may still see both CPUs in Q2 2015.

Most likely they had a very tight specs for things that didn't need to be so tightly constrained. Re-evaluated what really needed to be there after loosening up the specs... and people say Intel has no competition.

Those Skylake parts should replace the locked multiplier Haswell-based Core i3/i5/i7, Pentium and Celeron. I'm glad they almost skipped Broadwell this time (except for unlocked parts), otherwise we wouldn't see desktop Skylake before 2016. There will be locked Skylake, Broadwell-K and Haswell-E for desktops next year, 3 generations coexisting.

The arquitecture seems beyond ready if they can ship it for desktops, and I can see some manufacturers (Apple) wanting DDR4 and better igpus to improve battery life and stop using dedicated gpus. Not to mention TB3 support. They really need that next year for external 5K displays, can't imaging them leaving mac pro and laptop users almost two years without a 5K option after the iMac release.

Its been know for quite a long time that Broadwell was essentially a laptop/server release only. Nothing new there.

Yes. I was just wondering if because of the one year delay, they would also skip Broadwell in higher TDP laptops (37-45W)

Weird positioning of Skylake. It seems to be taking the "midrange" slot, with both top-end desktop ultra-mobile being taken by Broadwell. I guess the big emphasis with Skylake is on the GPU?

Presentation and Roadmap currentness are two different things. Theoretically ITC could have used an outdated Intel Roadmap for their presentation. This is always a risk on a non Intel presentation. To me it looks like it is based on an outdated Roadmap (5Q Roadmap goes to Q3 2015, so the Roadmap was made in Q2-Q3 2014)

Maybe to upgrade to 8GB of RAM, they need a more expensive chipset or motherboard and they didn't know where to put it. If they lumped it in the RAM price, it makes it look like they're ripping everyone off. If they lumped it in the CPU, they just look weird. So I guess they went with weird.
