@frozentundra123456, July 1, 12:00 AM is the exact middle of 2015, so I would say that August would seem a bit late. But then again, late has been the norm for Broadwell.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic or what, but I was only pointing out that for instance if you divide the year into 3 parts, the middle would include May through August, and I can't believe broadwell K is coming in a month or so which is what the author of that article said, although the slide did not say that at all.

Companies like AMD/Intel/NVIDIA and more, divide the year in to 4 Quarters. Middle of the year is Q2 for them. July to September is H2 or Q3.

Not posting this to come across as disagreeing with you, but just to add more data and perspective...when I worked at TI we would have these internal "quarterly satellite updates" from the CEO (whoever it might be at the time) hosted across the globe at all the TI plants, offices, fabs, etc.

And what I distinctly remember, because it was such a stark contrast, was that when we (TI) would externally communicate any scheduling items along the lines of "mid-2015", internally what we'd discuss is how that was the target, as in "realistically speaking, no sooner than mid-2015".

It was a polite way of communicating "it will be Q3 of 2015". Better than saying "2H 2015" because that inherently implied/communicated "no sooner than Q4 2015".

And lets just take history, across the industry, as an example...when was the last time a company communicated "2H 20XY" and they actually delivered in Q3 20XY? It always means Q4, but is a nice and polite way of saying "no sooner than Q4".

So my take on the "mid-2015" wordage is we won't see them any earlier than Q3 2015, meaning not before July but quite possible before October.

Wouldn't it be refreshing for a company to say "mid-2015" and have that mean they will actually deliver the goods come July 1st? I doubt it will happen though, if they had any hope of delivering the goods by July 1st then they would frame it as "Q2 2015" or "1H 2015".

If im not mistaken, the only change in the roadmap bellow has been to the Skylake that has been pushed to Q3.
Broadwell for the Desktop was H1(Q2) from the start.

I think Broadwell-K (or -C or whaterver) will be released in Computex. Devil's Canyon was also mid year and it was released in Computex.

Surface Pro 4 Rumoured Specifications

Intel 5th gen Broadwell, not Core M
FANLESS design but with tiny holes for heat radiation (not as visible as that in SP3)
No noise anymore, because of the fanless logic board
Obviously thinner comparing to SP3, but not lighter (for now, at least)
12-inch display, not sure if there will be other options
The new system font in Windows 10 was far more beautiful in the high res
Screen res is the same as that in Surface Pro 3
The frame of the screen, the battery, ports and the kickstand are almost the same with SP3, on this prototype

www.windowscentral.com/possible-specs-surface-pro-4-detail-fanless-still-powerful-system

Apparently it's a fanless Broadwell-U system.

Incredibly light Core i7 Broadwell laptop:

Lenovo LaVie Z ultralight notebook now available

Right now the company is offering the LaVie Z with a Core i7-5500U processor, a 2560 x 1440 pixel display, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a 6 cell battery for $1499. The Lenovo LaVie Z is remarkably compact machine for a notebook with a 13.3 inch display. It measures about 0.7 inches thick and weighs 1.87 pounds (0.84 kg) if you opt for a laptop or 2.04 pounds (0.92 kg) if you choose the LaVie Z 360 which is a convertible notebook.

JM, that's old news. We've known about Broadwell Iris Pro for some time now (and the cancellation of all the other LGA1150 desktop Broadwells). The i7-5775C and i5-5675C were announced a few weeks ago. Though the idea that fully unlocked Skylake is coming in October is news to me . . . I had expected locked Skylake-S in 2015 and unlocked Skylake-K in 2016.

I didn't read the entire thread but has there been any indication if there will be 37-45W Core i7 quad Broadwells for laptops (i.e., mid-2015 Apple MacBoo Pro 15.6" models)? I am wondering what Apple will use exactly to refresh their premium 15.6 models.

There will be; Broadwell-H.

Nice, I would be in if it were half the price. That is the problem with all these thin and light formfactors. I can see a business using them for executives, sales reps, etc.: lots of travel, want to impress the customer, etc., and maybe for a student if you use it every day to carry between classes. (Edit: even then, this is more expensive than the Macbook air, which is what everyone seems to be carrying around on the campus where I work.)

But for normal use, with just occasional travel for a vacation or some such, it just seems too expensive for the performance. Even then, lightness is important, but does a few ounces one way or the other really matter? It still is a large device, not like a smartphone or even a 7" tablet that you can stick in a pocket (or a purse if you are a woman.)

For 1500 dollars I could get a nice gaming laptop and a cheap atom tablet for on the go, or just use a smart phone (TBH I dont have one, but the vast majority of people do). Or use the tablet or smartphone for on the go, and get a few hundred dollar full power mobile laptop or desktop for at home use that demands more computing power.

I like lying back in my bed, my head propped up with pillows and having a laptop resting on my lower chest or stomach.

With that being the case, these light laptops are definitely what I am after, providing they don't get too hot. :awe:

A bit earlier than I expected. This will be an interesting chip. It might or might not match Core i7 4790K when overclocked (most likely won't) but it's Iris Pro's debut as an unlocked LGA part.

Broadwell cores + huge eDRAM/L4 will probably put its CPU performance between Core i7 4770K and Core i7 4790K at stock.
