Dudes and dudettes, the Xeon E5 2687w v4 -- a 12 core/24 thread Broadwell-EP that runs at 3GHz base/3.5GHz turbo -- sells for $2100.

There is no way a 10 core Broadwell-E at 3GHz base/3.5Ghz turbo is going to sell for the same price or higher. This will be a $1500 chip.

Those are placeholder prices. USD to Canadian foreign exchange is at least 1.265. That means to get US prices, you have to divide Canadian NCIX store prices by roughly 1.265, but their system failed to do so properly. Right now the US and Canadian prices are almost identical which means a system error.

NCIX.com (Canada):

i7 6800K = $619.04 Canadian
i7 6850K = $881.97 Canadian
i7 6900K = $1494.33 Canadian
i7 6950K = $2346.93 Canadian

Besides, these prices will go way lower on launch week.

Example:

NCIX.com = Core i7 5820K = $519.99 Canadian
NCIXUS.com = Core i7 5820K = $411.64 USD

$519.99 / $411.64 ~ 1.263 foreign exchange rate applied correctly

No need to panic yet.

Interesting in this context is that Apple apparently is releasing something for WWDC with Xeon, and FCPX. People who were at FCPExchange report that there was presentation held by Apple, and before they would attend it they would have to sign huge list of NDA's.

https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/335/88480

So Im sure E5v4 16XX are getting released soon, also.

I don't see any mention of Xeon in that thread. But Apple releasing an updated Mac Pro using Broadwell-E at WWDC would make sense. Even if it's simply because getting Ivy Bridge-E chips might start to get a little difficult.

I got some USA distribution pricing. Keep in mind, this is the cost for resellers, not end users.

Intel Core i7-6950X – BX80671I76950X ($1609.37 US)
Intel Core i7-6900K – BX80671I76900K ($1024.70 US)
Intel Core i7-6850K – BX80671I76850K ($602.11 US)
Intel Core i7-6800K – BX80671I76800K ($422.60 US)

Proof:

Disregard customer price.

For reference, the same distributor sells the BX80662I56500 (i5 -6500) for $194.11, and Newegg sells it for $204.99

The markup for consumer CPUs is not very high.

Was hoping the price rumors weren't true

Oh well, I may ditch my 5820k for a 6800k depending on microcenter price and OCability.

AdamK47, let us know how that 10 core 6950x performs when you get it ( I know you'll get it!)

Are you keeping your 4 Titan Xs and waiting until the Vega is released?

I'll certainly do that.

I'll be going to Pascal at some point. That's a for sure thing.

The 6800k is just a generation more, so save better overclocking there won't be much difference.
I'd rather wait for Skylake hex/octo cores (by then the 8 core should be way less than $1000 if they release 12 core parts) and maybe they will have AVX512 enabled too.

I'm sorry I said Vega as I know you prefer Nvidia. What Pascal will you be upgrading to? 4 way also like your Titan Xs?

Yeah. I only paid $300 for the 5820k so I doubt I will lose much if anything when I sell it. I'm also fine with spending a little money since my current CPU is kind of a dud in the OC department. I can't get above 4.2ghz without more voltage than I'm comfortable with. Skylake E is likely to be on a new chipset which would require a lot more hassle and investment than just swapping CPUs.

I don't do anything that comes anywhere near maxing out my CPU but I don't have a car so I need to get my "spend money on unnecessary performance" fix from somewhere else. Plus, single threaded performance still matters in a lot of games so going from 4.2ghz to 4.6-4.8ghz could have a non zero impact on performance

That's a lot for a consumer chip. Oh well its only money. No big deal. Hell, I might take a few of them. Its always good to have an extra incase my water rig springs a leak. That way I don't have to wait for shipping. I'll have a couple extras in my drawer.

That's not how you do it: you get a spare house with a spare drawer with many more spare CPUs. Spare no money!

Whoever says "oh well, it's only money" has never had the unique experience of eating out of trash cans at the end of a paycheck while working a full time job and living a clean lifestyle.

One of these days I am going to figure out how to encode my hands in TCP/IP and start strangling people over the internet

I know what its like to be broke, but I admit to never eating out of a trash can. Anyway, those days are behind me. Intel pisses me off though. They never ship large batches out fast enough. They always give me crap about it. On Friday evenings my family spends time around the fire place and the kids like to throw the CPU's in the fire because they make a cool popping sound when the heat spreader pops off, but its hard to get enough of the new generation chips. Oh well, 1st world problems I guess.

I was very poor as growing up too, but if someone wants to make frivolous statements (that may or may not even be serious) about spending money, doesnt really bother me. Don Henley said it best "stop carrying that anger or it will eat you up inside."

End of off topic philosophy.

I'm not sure if this moral judgement is entirely appropriate on a tech forum, but eating out of trash cans is certainly not a unique thing, nor is it always forced upon the unwilling. Anyway, I believe the statement that you are referring to was made sarcastically, so luckily your imaginary hands did not become real, else they would have claimed an innocent victim.

moonbogg is known for being the lovable AT CPU forum comic relief, always bringing a good laugh or three to these boards. I don't for a second believe he was being serious

Anyway, really a bummer that you have had to eat out of trash cans at the end of a paycheck while working a full time job. I like capitalism for the most part, but I do think anybody who works full time should not have to do that.

That being said, "it's only money" is appropriate in cases where there are more serious things at play. I would spend every penny I have to save the life of a loved one. In this case, it really would be "only money."

Last time I looked rice/beans/ramen are ULTRA cheap. No reason to eat out of a trash can with that kind of fine cuisine available.

Yep, but even then I still consider it "only money". I'm going Galt soon and plan on living on very little. It's all about priorities if you ask me.
