So looking at the reviews, what do you guys think is the sweet spot for ram speed? Still 3200? CL15 or 16?

Is it the reduced latency or the increased bandwidth that offers greater performance (mostly in file compression and some games)? I think 3200 MT/s C14 a sweet spot.

Looks like we should wait a month before getting our 8700K's. The last I looked (admittedly on a 7xxx) the faster the RQAM the better the performance. There is a LPX Corsair (lowish profile) 4000 at Newegg. The best I could find on Amazon was 3200. Of course, you can find G.Skill with coxcombs at 4000, but who needs heatsinks with Vramm = 1.35v? I'll wait the month, see what MB/CPU/RAM availability we have then. Already I can see that the MB I was going to get -- the Gigabyte Gaming 7 -- has a wee little fan by the VRM. That fan makes testing heatsink noise a no-go. So I'll look for another MB. So far, all is interesting.s

What a disappointing launch and day! I took off work and drove to MicroCenter in Houston, and came back with nothing but wasted time! I should have called before going. I will wait for the CPU to be available before buying the mother board and memory. I am guessing it's going to be at least a month before the 8700k becomes fully available on shelves.
Patience....

I put in an order for an 8700k and a AORUS Gaming 7 board with Amazon. They aren't taking backorders anymore though. Usually I disdain bundles, but in this case since I needed both items anyway, it worked out. Having more NVME slots will be nice. I've wanted to put in a second SSD, but haven't had a slot for it. 512 GB just isn't quite enough these days.

8700k for sale on ebay for... $999 starting price. I am wondering how many were available for sale today.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-...869966?hash=item3f889c14ce:g:bO0AAOSw22dZ1ef5

I think it's only one unit, i've been looking at it all day

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0765GDX18/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&th=1

but like i said, they aren't taking backorders anymore. It was $570 for the pair when I ordered it though, so it was a slight discount.
Thanks, I already have a MB but if buying a bundle gets me the 8700k faster then so be it, ill return the MB

I'm seriously considering buying the 8400 and then return as no longer needed and pay the restocking fee on amazon when 8700k is available.

Think I'm going to get this RAM set, CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 8GB, DDR4 3600. I've used the lower speed ones without issues, and price seems reasonable enough (for current RAM prices, anyway).

If anyone knows better low-profile alternatives let me know.

EDIT: Ordered, going for same price on Amazon

Wow, pretty reasonable, now that they're on sale. When not on sale, not really.

Are those Samsung B-die, and would they work with Ryzen 5 CPUs? What is the max DRAM speed that Ryzen 5 boards support? 3200? Or higher?

I wonder if it would be better to get 8GB of that 3600 stuff, versus 16GB of slower (my Team 3000 is current running at 2667).

In short, should I get a kit of these for one of my Ryzen rigs, and then pull out the Team RAM and put it into my CFL ITX?

Somewhere, I've got a (8GB?) kit of DDR4-2800 that was sold as for X99, that I picked up fairly cheap early on in DDR4 days. If I can find that, it would probably work with CFL too.

Gosh ram prices are insane. Sucks, I think I need more than 8gb but the stuff is so price gouged. Good luck to those of you building a whole new system!

Kinda high latency is it not? Doing my own research it seems you want 3200/14 or 3600/16.

@TheF34RChannel , I can remember a launch when Europe had plenty and the US none (6700K...?) So it's not US first, at least not always.

That particular CPU wasn't available at all at launch and it took about 9 months for stock and price to normalise here. I don't want a repeat of that. I know I come of sour, because the disappointment is immense with this 'launch'.

Yeah 3200 still is that. Latencies don't really matter at all (for gaming anyway) as it's about the frequency and it has been since a long while. Now if you can get lower that's never going to hurt of course. Today, price and availability play a large role as well.

Watched about 10 different 8700K and 8400 reviews. I didn't realize the ASRock boards support BCLK overclocking, even apparently for non-K chips.

Wow, I thought Intel killed that a few months after Skylake came out.

They did and will do so again with the first BIOS update I expect - it's a sale tactic really.

This is a dodgy site but I think we've got a new price record: €2500 http://www.sicomputers.nl/cpu-intel-1151-i7-8700k-coffee-lake.html

I'd like to know if I can just set my 3333MHz RAM specs manually and then prevent the SA and other thingy volts skyrocketing? I really don't want to tweak those. It was mentioned in the OC3D review that anything upwards of 3200 + XMP needs voltage tweaking (lowering) and I cba. I like setting my RAM up manually anyway but tweaking not at all.

Didn't know about that but there were some features such as BCLK voltage amplitude adjustment and BCLK Aware Adaptive Voltage which supposedly adjusts CPU V/F curves against BCLK setting.
