The idea that the Intel was able to quickly make CFL 6 cores in a panic response to Ryzen.

If Intel can do that in a rush, then AMD is absolutely doomed in the CPU arena.
Are you joking or are you being serious? Why would AMD be doomed? Higher clocked AMD Pinnacle is on its way.

It's a joke, bringing up a topic (Intel Coffee Lake timeline and AMD Zen) that has been well-discussed, to death. So, no to discussing it again.

Well guys guess I am not buying Ryzen again after all, but going with CFL for 100% sure now. I just went ahead and purchased and paid for the very beautiful Z370 Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7 Motherboard. Haven't had a premium motherboard in such a long time and really really wanted this one for all the bells and whistles I need. Its been calling to me all week, so why not right? I mean you only live once and life is short. GOt it for only $249 with free 2nd day shipping so I will have it by Friday. Now if only my darn back ordered i7 8700k would show complete then we'd be in business!!

Yowza - guess my plan for a Black Friday build was prescient. Now I have to hope that Silicon Lottery gets a decent allocation of 8700Ks.

I do keep in mind that this is just 1 support guy saying this, perhaps he may be way off (it wouldn't be the first time in my experience).

They just can't get off that line...

The funny thing is that the website owner, Tom Logan, himself explained the true reason for the brought forward launch so why Mark wrote this is sloppy.

I have the same Aorus branded mobo although the cheaper Ultra version. So I assume the bios is near identical. One thing I have learned when overclocking with this board is how important load line calibration is on it, even more so than usual. Also it is weird but for some reason it is set to auto, but when you want to change it you have to type in manually what you want it to be. So set it to Turbo (case sensitive). The manual won't tell you this, I found that out by Dr Google. Made a big difference with stability, I couldn't get 5Ghz even at 1.36 with it set to auto. But now at 1.34 at 5 and haven't tested yet to see how much lower it will go.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. So what kind of cooling are you using to hit that 5Ghz and what are your temps like? I was thinking of reusing my Hyper 212 evo or am I going to need something more powerful at cooling? I have a Phanteks TC-14-PE in blue but have gut wrenching panic attacks about having something that large and that heavy mounted to such a tiny cpu.
I have seen video's on youtube where all it took was a bump of the case and or moving the case wrong and the weight of the heatsink cracked peoples cpu's. I would literally die if that happened to me.Either that or I would turn into the Incredible Hulk and throw a adult rage tantrum LOL. It wouldn't be pretty I can promise you that..

The Hyper 212 will hold it back even with just an multicore enhancement OC. I'd want something a bit better on an 8700k.

I think you are going to like that board. If it is on par with their x299 Aorus Gaming 7 it is a VERY nice piece.

Thanks I hope so. What kind of cooling should I use then? Water? Kinda iffy using water. Had a NZXT x31 AIO i think it was called anyways, used it for 3 years then out of the blue one day it started leaking for no reason at all. Is there maybe a high end air solution that'll work that wont break the bank?

I have this cooler - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835856078

Very easy to install, actually found it easier to install than a bulky air cooler. Also no concern about cracking the motherboard (like you I would be nervous putting on a ultra huge heat sink)

Honestly I have not used or looked at High-end air in 6-7 years, so I can't make any recommendations on that. I can tell you I have been very impressed how my 280mm AIO has handled my 7820x. I went in with the full expectation of having to go custom water, but it has proven to be sufficient.

I may have gone a little overboard. What was once going to be a small $5-600 weekend mobo/cpu replacement project has become the following.

Thermaltake Tower 900 "case"
Custom water cooling (EKWB parts)
32 GB new high speed corsair dominator RAM (2x16GB)
1TB Samsung 960 Pro (going to re-use my existing 950 Pro 512 GB as a system drive/non steam disk)
Gigabyte AORUS Gaming 7 board
I7-8700k

The cheap, quick project is going to end up being my most in depth build ever due to all the tube bending, etc. The only things being re-used are my old SSD, optical drive, video card, and PSU (which I hope has long enough cables).

Crono Is probably busy having fun with his new rig.

Sleeping, actually (I work nights) .

I think the cores can be locked to 4600MHz if I could enable Multicore Enhancement, but I'm not seeing an option in the motherboard settings for it. Otherwise it does 4300 for all the heavy multithreaded stuff I tried, and up to 4600 if not all cores are being fully utilized.

BCLK looks like it will only go up to 102.7 on this motherboard with this locked CPU, unless I'm missing something. Turbo/speedstep seems to be disabled when upping it to that, as well.

Am I the only one that thinks "3000+" at Newegg will disappear in about 4 hours? I hope I am.
That 3000+ wont even cover backorder i think.

I remember a conversation I had with newegg support, they said a new shipment was coming on Oct 10th and would start covering backorders but I had more than 100 backorders before mine

Hey guys, now when it comes to DDR4 and stuff like 3200 all the way up to 4233 is that only being able to use 2 sticks with those high of speeds or would I be able to use 4 stick and fill up all 4 ram slots? I know Ryzen has an issue with anything past 2933 with 4 stick if Im not mistaken or maybe it was 2666.Any how, I would Love to get like a set of 4x8gb 3600 or 4x4gb 4000 if that is possible?
