If you wanted to overclock you should have paid extra for an 8350K or gone with an alternative brand of processor. Intel sold you a locked processor and told you the specs of the chip ahead of time. Seems a little strange to go on a computer forum to complain about getting exactly what you paid for.
Look at all the poor Amazon reviews.

Most are about the CPU being locked, or the lack of availability. They aren't reviews of the CPUs.

Intel should've had the retailers take pre-orders for a week instead of releasing the chips. That might have saved people some frustration.

Looks like Newegg has an Auto Notify button for the 8700k..... I don't think they had that earlier. Hopefully they are anticipating stock soon.

Got my 8400 yesterday, nice little thing.
I can't get all cores to run at 4ghz thou
So what is the highest multi for that chip for all cores that you can set it for?Like is 40 an option?
Also Thank you Larry, for posting your CPUz scores. It makes me think that some of the reviewers are getting paid to be a tad bit bias on there reviews to make the CFL series look much better then it really is.No biggie though cause tech is advancing so fast these days I can hardly keep up.

There's are two usb 2.0 header and one usb 3.0 header at the bottom/middle of the board there is one usb 3( I think that's what's its called) .1 header near the 24 power pi

They aren’t rebranded KBL dies. They are Coffee Lake chips.
You know this how? And my suggestion is that 14nm++ is really just the "same" process as 14nm, only that "14nm" was the starting point, and "14nm++" is a marketing term describing the current point of the process. That there's nothing objectively different.

I could be completely wrong, of course, and Intel actually has undertaken to make both a 6-core as well as a 4-core mask set, but that seems like a waste of money to me, when they could easily re-badge KBL 4-core dies, into Coffee Lake packages, just like AMD did with Carizzo and Bristol Ridge on AM4. Same thing.

I believe you are wrong. I remember reading something that they actually made the gate distance larger on 14nm++. That is a clear physical change in the "wrong direction" to the expected ever shrinking transistors. It was done to reduce leakage (less power usage).

I'm tempted to pull the trigger with these guys because they have a date published. This will be LGA1366/X58 to LGA1151/Z370 upgrade. However, I'm going back and forth between Z370 and waiting for Z390.

You really want to wait another 9 months for Z390...?

Sorry, meant USB 3.1 and I honestly don't see one near the 24 pin? It's a rather big and conspicuous header. It's for the front case USB ports.

IIRC, there are pics somewhere showing the differences, and 14nm++ is actually a little bigger in one of the dimensions.

A third improved process, "14nm++", is set to begin in late 2017 and will further allow for +23-24% higher drive current for 52% less power vs the original 14nm process. The 14nm++ process also appear to have slightly relaxed poly pitch of 84 nm (from 70 nm). It's unknown what impact, if any, this will have on the density.

Note that while both "14nm" and "14nm+" used the same transistor geometry, the "14nm++" actually uses a more relaxed contacted poly pitch of 84 nm (from previously 70nm). There is no real density change despite this change likely due to various design techniques such as reduced fins where unnecessary.

But it does get 3.8GHz all cores?

Yep, 40

You can likely get a PCI-E card?

Probably, however I like nothing other than a GPU in there because it looks better to me (I'm weird ha ha!). Once home I found a large pic (horrible viewing on a mobile phone) of the Hero and there's indeed only 1 at the bottom where the cable doesn't reach. The Apex has one adjacent to the SATA ports.

Every conversation with Newegg support that I have read goes a little bit differently. Some excessively vague and some very detailed. When I called 2 days ago, the conversation was somewhere in between. Was told they were expecting only small batches intermittently between now and next year and there was no way to tell how many backorders were ahead of mine, etc. Oddly, he said that his system was showing that they had 7 on hand due to cancelled orders, but that made little sense to me as it would seem that those would have been automatically assigned to ship to the next backorders in the queue.

Ha ha yeah I never put much faith in such discussions with support. The other day, whilst enquiring about CPU and Apex board availability I was helped really well by a guy, then suddenly two days later someone else started answering the same question I already had answered and linked me the IX Apex saying it's in stock *face palm* Faith no more...

- Hence I'm weary of that Newegg guy with 3-5 weeks prediction, speaking to another may yield a completely different answer. Meh.

You are correct. It is less dense than the previous iteration. To help bump clock speed a bit and reduce thermals a bit.

My parts come in tomorrow, but as we all know, the date on the CPU is pretty much unknown. Frankly, I'd love at least an estimated window from Newegg, and I'm even okay if it changes. I just prefer knowing something rather than feeling like I'm completely in the dark. Anyway, I'm tempted to pick up an i3-8100 just to test the parts. After that, I could either pick up a low-end Z370 board or wait for the H-series boards to use the 8100.

That's really par for the course for Amazon reviews.

Did some poking around after you replied with this, seeing more articles that say 2nd half of 2018. I had thought it was 1st half. Not willing to wait that long. Thanks.

In regards to shopblt.com, a quick google brought me this reddit post. I'll wait for stock at Amazon or my local MC.

Originally it was H1 for the entire CFL launch, part of which then was brought forward wheres as the previous H1 Z370 will now become the H2 Z390. I am not waiting that long either for just a chipset.

Do you remember when you threw a tantrum when some review sites needed relatively "high" voltages in their Threadripper review? How come you're so comfortable with this particular review you are even quoting them, albeit selectively?

Edit:
First, its not selectively, as I said its the conclusion.

As for the high voltages, go ready the threadripper builders thread, and its obvious that you DON"T need 1.42 vcore to get 4ghz, even if you don't believe me, since I OWN one.

My Amazon order now has November 3-20 as my delivery date. Of course my return window on the combo motherboard will be up or nearly up depending on when in that range I get it. They should not have shipped out part of the combo without the rest when it was a bundle.
