You really want to wait another 9 months for Z390...?

Sorry, meant USB 3.1 and I honestly don't see one near the 24 pin? It's a rather big and conspicuous header. It's for the front case USB ports.
right under the 24 pin connector is a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Front panel connector. If you download the pdf manual you can look at the diagram.

Yeah I spotted that one. It's, however, a gen 1 I need :/ oh well, it's my fall back board so let's see if the Apex releases before the world ends it's got all the right things in the right places

Because It has a single core Turbo of 4GHz. All core is 3.8GHz and it isn't an unlocked chip.
Ahhh got ya.. Thought because it said 4Ghz that this was for all cores.Newegg is kinda miss leading people on that fact.
LOL just checked and now it is showing "Turbo Core" in there description so I must not be the only person to have caught that.

How many place do most of you have pre orders at? I have 2 one at Newegg the other at BH Photo. Wondering if i should put a pre order at shopblt as well? I wold guess that Newegg would get them in before Shopblt.

I also emailed ibuypower and asked if they sell oem i7 8700k without buying a full system. They said they don't and individual cpus won't be available until the first quarter.

Yes! The Apex boards are coming into stock next week! And for a fair price as well, around the €350 mark.

What defines a turbobload? Eg how long time in all core turbo mode before it goes to base in a 8700?

We don't know that yet, but can extrapolate from 8700K power results: when configured for stock clocks the 8700K does not go above 95W in Cinebench and Blender, so one can assume stock 8700k will get continuous max MT turbo for this types of loads and anything lighter like games.

The 8700 however has 65W stock TDP and the same 6c turbo bin, so it will go over 65W in both Blender and CB. In a stock configuration that will give you about 30-40 seconds before clocks drop down to match the 65W average required to enforce stock TDP. However, in a Z board the power settings can probably be configured to either extend the short term power limit or simply increase TDP to 95W and get continuous boost all the time with proper cooling.

The 8400 is another story, it should be able to more easily maintain continuous turbo clocks or at least stay closer to max values. Again, we're talking something like CB or Blender, not Prime 95.

Seems to be the case, I've configured everything correctly on mb but still won't do it
I have one last idea on what might help unlock the turbo bins until my parts arrive and I can take a crack at it myself: is there any Speed Shift setting in the BIOS? If there is and it's turned on, can you turn it off and try to max the 6c turbo clocks again? (including increasing Short Term and Long Term power limits to 95W if these are available)

Just a heads up....
If anyone bought an Asus Strix Z370 board, you may want to keep a close eye on your voltages/vdroop when overclocking.
And be sure to keep an eye out for any bios updates that may be needed.
Apparently LLC isn't working correctly with the launch bios.

I don't believe this is the first time either with launch BIOS on Asus boards. Still, by the time most of us get their boards this will all be in the past - ASUS' BIOS team is always quick to rememdy things like this.

Yeah, he seems pretty PO'ed and rightfully so given his explanation.

I've had many Asus boards and they have always addressed bios issues pretty quickly.
So im confident Asus will have a bios fix available pretty quickly.
That's why i didn't make my post sound so dramatic.

When I built my Sandy Bridge Asus came out with a new revision of the board shortly after launch. I don't remember what it fixed - something minor. But yes I'm really glad in a way some of these issues may be addressed by the time I get my cpu.

I still have my 2600k/Asus P8Z68-V Pro and i have the original release board too, the GEN 3 version added PCIE-3.0 support for Ivy bridge.
And yeah, Asus had regular bios updates for my original version board even after the GEN 3 version was released.
And my Asus Z170 board had plenty of bios updates/fixes including support for Kaby Lake which is why/how im running a 7700k on that board now. (they even added the AVX offset setting)

So I dont think Asus will let the Z370 board owners go long before a bios update/fix is available to fix the LLC issue.

Didn't work.
I had that speed shift setting and I disabled it and nothing.
